The venerable 147 won't pass an MOT without spending more than it's worth. If anyone wants a cheap project, offer me £150 to take it away
Rear shocks need replacing.
Couple of bits welding
Some electrical gremlins
Then it'll need a service.

WBAC will get it on Saturday (sadly) I'm quite emotional about the old lass :(

Way I look at it is, will the car I replace it with cost a fortune to fix in year one too, or is it worth coughing up for the 147 and in the end save cash and preserve something I enjoy?

That’s a shame, when a trusty steed is put down.
My 147 is in the garage at the moment, was sorned for a year or so and now needs a few bits, big and small, Cambelt, clutch slave, handbrake cables, bit of the common rear floorpan repair, check the sills behind the skirts at the same time. Full service too. Won’t be cheap, but it’s worth doing because it’s a GTA! Bit like a mini Maserati really, have to swallow some big bills every now and again....

Makes sense, but we're trying to not be a 3 car family. Depending on how the next week's negotiations go, the Continental may be needing a new home.

It is. If it was a GTA it would be a far more likely to be a keeper.

I miss my 147 - was daily bangernomics for 3yrs and never really had any major issues but then a variator let go - it had 147k miles on it somewhat ironically! It only cost me £800 and I got £175 from the scrapper so couldn't really complain.

I fear they will all vanish soon with just the GTA's left

I have had a few 147 bangernomic motors and made money on everyone, purchase between £200-400 and sell between £400-800

Bangeromics is the way forward.
My trusty Renault 4 in 3 years worth double what we paid for it and that's 000's not 00's.
Hope you get things sorted @CatmanV2 as I reckon the Bentley suits you Sir.

I loved my 147's. (and 156 and GT all the same underneath) The only problem is the bushes and drop links seemed to be made of chocolate.

The other thing is clutches on the Twinnys. At £600 that's a good proportion of the cost of the car. Add in a cam belt every three years and it's unsurprising so few survive. Pity as the 147 and the 156 in particular are very pretty cars than handle really well.

TS? Pretty sure we never did a clutch and it's just done 140k..... I'd need to check though, we bought it with pretty low mileage. Cam belt is (from memory) about £450 all in. Did it last year :(
