Alarm problem?

The autofold mirrors on my car blew about six times (fuse 41 in passenger footwell IIRC) but then stopped.

Then my battery started going flat over night. As previously said it was the tracker/natrak that had flattened its battery and was then using the car's battery. I suspect it was worse as the car was in a garage so it was probably looking for satellites all the time.

Anyway, the tracker/navtrak is now disconnected and all is well.

Bob out of interest, where was your situated, I have been told 90% of the time there are in the same place, in the rear wings somewhere. Then maybe he could disconnect it himself, but recon a fair amount of trim will have to come out to access it.

Mine was under the passenger side of the dash. My indie found the wires running to the footwell fuse box, disconnected them and taped them off. The tracker is still there.

Fingers crossed but no problems in the near six months since then.

FWIW when it started it was pretty brutal. I had the RAC out twice to jump it and the second time they did a current analysis that identified that the battery was being fully drained in under 12 hours.

Well - I returned to the car after the battery being isoloated for a further week and it fired up no problems. I will take your advice and speak to an Auto electrician to see what he suggests. Any other tips I can give them as its guaranteed they wont have worked on one of these before!

I think I need to get it in for a service and check over soon - dont think she is running 100% right.

When I turned a corner today I heard a clunk from the rear. Ill empty the boot to ensure its not something in there - but could it be a spring/suspension thing??

Cheers

Sorry guys as you know been away and also had me head stuck into work mode for a bit , Trackers are usually installed in the passenger rear wing or just to the nearside of the petrol tank behind the carpet backing , and yes they are a drain on the cars battery system once there own back up batteries are knackered , After battery resetting you may have to go through the locking unlocking procedure several times untill it syncs back into the correct mode

Important to leave your driver/passenger window undone slightly when turning the battery off so as to necessitate opening of the doors whilst the battery is off

Secondly when you turn it back on the, immobiliser will be automatically be initiated altho the car may may not be unlocked this is where the sequence can get confused, if the car is locked when turning the battery back on check to see if the immobiliser light on the dash in red flashing, if it is lock and unlock before opening the door should put it back in sync

When beginning to start the car for the first time after reset make sure all the lights have gone out for atleast 30 secs before turning the key (4200) ,GS pushing the Button

Your first 100 miles from now on will be the cars re-learning your driving style curve so make them brisk miles with frisky driving that will keep all the throttle responses etc at their peak

hope this helps

regards loz

Thanks for the reply Loz, Conaero and Big Bob

I'm having to isolate the battery every night, manually lock the doors and then the next morning I have to do it all again in reverse!

Ive taken Conaero's advice and booked it into an Auto Electrical specialist - although he confesses he has never worked on a Maserati before. Is there a simple set of instructions you advise I give him so he can get his way around the car?

I mentioned the tracker problems people have faced, but he felt that as my battery was draining so quickly over say 14 hours, it was more likely to be something bigger. Although he will check it out and it is under warranty with Tracker.

Cheers - Mark

Mine was draining overnight and it was the tracker so tell him that is the best place to try.

Check the radio and stack CD are going off fully on power down and not still trickle draining.

It will be your tracker for sure.

Thought you'd all like to know that it appears the fault was on the passenger seat!

Apparently it was energizing intermediately causing it to flatten the battery. I think what happened was the button fell off and I popped it back on a few weeks ago. Since then it would seem the seat has been moving in a forward, the loop heats up (???), goes off then starts all over again. This has caused the battery to go flat.

Picking the car up later and having a chat with the guy.

Thanks to you all and especially Conaero for suggesting the electrical specialist as my first port of call! (although I dont know the cost yet!)

Glad to be of some help.

The auto electrician would be your cheapest route for sure, they must charge around £50ph, where as Maserati charge nearly 3 times that....and they would have probably subbed the job out to an auto sparky anyway!

Great news that the fault has been pin-pointed,
Would have thought that cost should not be too bad, fingers crossed.

It turned out to be £120 plus vat, so £40 an hour. He spent longer in it than that but only charged 3 hours.

With the seat continually going back, stopping then going again, he said it's the equivalent of switching your headlights on full then turning them off and doing this all night - hence flattened battery. All other appliances had powered down.

He disconnected the tracker to check it. Should this have triggered Tracker to call me??

The great news was the car started first time yesterday, thank goodness!!
