Just a quick bit of info. My Airbag light has been on for a few YEARS now [ Hidden by steering wheel so not really annoying] and I finally decided to do something about it. I took the car to Paul at SPORTS CAR SERVICES . Turns out it was activated by trying to start it with a flat battery . All good now but I thought it was interesting. The car is a 2002 Manual 4200 Coupe. Colin

Is this commonplace? Because I have mine in a garage now with the same fault.
I tried starting with a flat battery, but the guy at the garage can't get the light off with his computer (doesn't talk to Maserati)

The problem is you need to reset the light after changing the switch.
A mate of mine has this part in his Alfa. I was thinking of trying his before buying one because the truth is, I don't know if its the actual switch that is faulty. Based on what you said about having the light reset (I assume by an indy with diagnostic equip?), I may not know if just fitting my mates switch temporarily will have sorted the problem.
Also, will this action throw a light on his car? Any other potential issues?

You can only reset the light with compatible diagnostic equipment. No exchange of parts will clear it and niether will a battery reset.

So as you need to plug the car in, you will know which error brought the light on and what if anything needs repair.

Any other options are just wasting time and effort

the light was cleared 2 or 3 times by my indy but will no longer clear. He suggested we utilise the services of an auto electrician to see if he can find the problem, but I thought changing the switch could be useful thing to try in the first instance. Sounds like I need to try the swapping of switch idea at the indy so he can attempt to clear it again once new switch has been fitted?
