Aerial Positions

Whilst looking at 4200 cars I've noticed aerial positions for mounting on different cars. Some have rear left wing mounting, others have stubby roof aerial and some have nothing at all. Is this anything to do with differing Sat Nav packages?

The earlier cars had a rear wing mounted ariel . The later 4200 s had it in the screen and some Gransports have roof mounted bee stings ....I think

On later 4200's and gransports, the fm aerial is built in to the front and rear screens, the bee sting on the roof is the gps aerial for the sat nav.(so i was told).

I've had a 2005 4200 and now have a 2005 GS. The 4200 had FM and satnav via the screens with no aerial. The GS has a bee-sting up top.

Life is too short to fathom why.

As I recall it, the early cars (2002-3 approx.) had the aerial on the rear flank, the middle cars (2004-5 approx.) had it on the roof and the later cars (2005+) and GS had it in the screen.

My early 2003 4200 has screen mounted FM aerials and a bee-sting on the roof. I have seen 4200s with later registrations with the aerial mounted on the rear wing. It probably depends on what parts were on the assembly line at the time of build.

I was also under the impression that the bee-sting is the phone antenna and the SatNav aerial is mounted by the instrument binnacle, but I'm probably mis-remembering.

Yes the phone uses the roof antenna and the GPS uses an antenna which is located inside the large air vent in the top of the dash.
