Advice welcome - Granturismo 4.7 S buying

Hi

My first post here.

I've started looking at buying a Granturismo, pretty much as a daily drive (amongst a small collection of cars that are mainly summer only).

I've found a nice looking 4.7 on Autotrader, reg DFZ3565. Auto, no skyhook. 55k miles. Anyone know it? Full Maserati History, current owner bought from Maserati in Belfast. Actuators done.

On at £28.5k.

Any advice on what I should look for?

A friend is going to view on my behalf on Saturday.

Any constructive input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks, very helpful. Hadn't spotted that one.

On the 55k car, what might be a fair price, especially considering we're heading into winter, and I perceive the market to be slow?

Hi there and welcome to the forums.

My 41,000 miles MC Shift is for sale and wants for nothing - Good honest car with great factory spec and all the big bills done (new brakes, recently clutch, recent F1 pump, stacks of receipts additionally). X Pipe, few other goodies etc. Regardless of the fact it is a bargain price, there is still a tiny bit of flexibility for a deal .

No clutch on the sport so that’s one thing not to worry about.
Full MSH is positive-for me the price is a little high for the mileage,

Another one to consider with 20k less miles?

I looked into this car recently on behalf of another forum member. Did not view it.
It is very cheap for an MC Shift on the face of it but:
- Has a huge gap in the MOT history despite mileage between 2014 and 2017 and I make it 2 missed MOTs. I wonder why?
- It did not need an MOT this October but had one anyway. Surprise surprise, no advisories but loads before, have they been rectified or did the garage just want to sell it as "12 months MOT no advisories"?
- There is no mention of the clutch, F1 pump or brakes. Additionally, the seller did not know and the car has not a single receipt/invoice beyond the stamps in the service book. It is at prime mileage for a clutch and brake job. I would keep some money in the budget for both those jobs in the next few K, just in case.
- The garage haven't exactly got glowing reviews on the web either, but you never know

Hi Lavazza

The price drop over the last 24 months has been something to behold. My car was basically same as MGT’s and I paid £40k in March 2017. I don’t know him at all, but I’d say seriously look at his as the F1 gearbox is a bit more involving (albeit greater long term maintenance cost). Good luck !

I have a Panamera in order to replace my old Audi wagon, and I was going to trade the Mas but at these values it’s worth keeping

Fair points MGT as I didn’t look into it that far...price is definitely not everything if there are issues round the corner!

And how rude of me not to have mentioned yours or Geoff’s which both look solid options too!

Geoff - that was before you had it detailed, I think. Must look even peachier now.

Mind you, your front number plate has 'fallen off'. Again.

Depends which gearbox you want. I have a 61 plate 4.7 GTS auto so a slightly newer version of what you are looking at. Think it's great, others prefer the automated single clutch.

Price wise I would think it is a little rich. Margins are high on cars like these so a trade bid for that car might be only c£23/25k so room for negotiation above that figure.

PS I've never heard of a 4.7 auto without skyhook. It was a standard fit but also a delete no cost option so check.

Appreciate the very helpful replies.

MGT and GeoffCapes, your cars both look like really lovely examples. I have had some 'man maths' drift from my original budget, but both are a touch beyond my limit - unless I let my lovely S1 Fulvia Rallye S go!

So right now, I will see how it goes with the private seller in Nottingham when my friend views and may well get in touch.

Do your MC Shift cars have Skyhook or not? (Sorry if I missed it in any descriptions).

A friend was looking at a 2010 Granturismo on my behalf today and I asked him to take a look at the underside as far as he could (without ramps). There were quite a few rusty looking bits under there which surprised me a little.

Is there a known issue with rusty underbody parts/subframe/chassis with these cars, or am I just being overly picky? (Example pic attached)

I'm used to looking under Aston Martin and Lotus which tend to look pretty much like new, but appreciate they're an entirely different construction.

If they're all like that (say for 6-10 year old cars), are they easy/inexpensive to freshen up?

Any advice welcome.

Front a rear subframes on all Maser's can be an issue for some reason. A few on here have had to change them.

Those are the piping covers in Maserati speak. They are basically a sacrificial part, and cost about £7 each of you don’t have a wire brush and a some underseal.

Yep! Christian Lewis have done a few. Mostly "older" 4.2s but the GTS' are not immune.
