Had a 3200 then a Gransport.

The 3200 robbed me of every penny I had, was always going wrong, engine rebuild at 35k but a truly great car, with epic torque. I never really trusted it and it let me down alot.

The Gransport on the other hand has been a breeze. Had a clutch failure in France, but it was on the way back from Le Mans, to got trailered back so not really a big issue. Apart from that its been rock solid. If you have a TVR, the 4200 with be a breath of fresh air.

Having spent £7k rebuilding a TVR Tamora engine only to crash the car a few months later I find the 3200GT relatively cheap! No problems with my 3200GT although clutches seem to go every 40k miles or so on both the 3200 & 4200. Brake disks are expensive as are major services at a dealers though there are good cheaper indies around. Some people band around a £3k yearly bill for these cars to keep them tip top though this depends how much you use it. I haven't spent anywhere near that in the last couple of years but I am expecting to change the clutch soon, plus I have a chain service at 68k miles which will be expensive.

I bought my 3200 5 years ago I have done 40k with it and it's my everyday car. It was the first car I saw. The issues I have had mostly been normal wear and tear that any car would have. The extraordinary items were the ABS unit (been trough 2) and the throttle body. The ABS issue turned out to be phonic wheel signal was blowing the ECU. The latter issue has been resolved for ever as I do the contactless upgrade. I have done mine 2 years ago, and many others which have completely transformed these cars so even if you have this issue is won't cost an arm and a leg to sort out! Like the others said ther is so much advice here and plenty of willin people to help I dought I would ever have any other car, ever!

Good luck

Throttle body and pot woth the contactless system thats been created and the 3200 is up there.....will be more reliable than your TVR....at 17k you could get the best 3200

17K...would also get you a pretty good 4200....and once those mentioned problems sorted and a few other items updated....3200 still a good buy.

You have to drive them both, if you love the 3200 looks then drive more of them otherwise go on the better car then thats 4200 as they became more reliable but at a cost......those lights!!

So Foodie, as you can see from the reports above, its not as bad as you have been led to believe. Most people who dont know what they are talking about will always slag off Italian cars with no evidence or experience in the marque, which is great for us, as it caused the cars to depreciate heavily and means all us average Joe Bloggs can afford them.

With the help of this forum, you will save £££'s as we have already experienced the faults, and found alternative parts, re conditioners or work arounds, plus there are even pictorial how to guides to help you fix and fit them yourselves.

Masterati Coupe, best kept car secret!

A few members have mentioned that the throttles need sorting, does this apply to both 3200 and 4200, and what costs are involved?
