Admiral Insurance

I moved to multicar insurance with them last year, making a huge savings over my usual broker.
I'm cautious, and I perceive that they are adept at hooking business in.
Suspicious of 'loss leader' deals in first year, but without evidence yet.
My home and contents insurance is due. I'm sure that my usual broker isn't trying despite nudging so gave Admiral an opportunity.
More than competitive but it's almost impossible to see if I'm getting like for like cover, but the headlines seem comprehensive.
Does anyone have anything to say wrt Admiral tactics, performance good or bad, before I decide.

I recall foreign call centres, and not much saving compared to individual policies on Money Supermarket.

Went with them last year for 3 cars including a youth and they were by far the cheapest. have just renewed with them and they were lower than the first year and much better then the others who claim to be multi car. Happy with them

Fully agree with @Keano ‘s comments...

We moved to them last November for multi car (x2) cover and also bundled in the home insurance (their top level cover) as they were cheapest all-in especially for the GT

Renewal just came round so I called them and got it down by £200 ish since they were trying to nudge it up...it came in at less than last year and below £1k for the platinum home insurance, fully comp on the GT and wife’s VW

Not had to claim with them so no experience but the customer service contact I spoke to was very helpful and UK based

Guess it all depends on cars and property. I've used them before without issue. However, I'd advise using a comparison site for car insurance (works well for me), and being really careful on property and contents.

I have had 3 cars insured with them a multi car policy, for quite a few years. They have for me always been cheaper than individual quotes, but you have to negotiate at every renewal date. I haven't had to make any claims touch wood, so cant comment on that side though.

We have 5 cars with them, and have done for quite a few years now. They were very good with our 2 teenagers whilst on provisionals and carried the NCD over to their full licences too. Unfortunately my son had his first prang not long after (his fault too), but they dealt with it very well and still stayed competitive on the renewal. Always worth giving them a call at time of renewal, even if it's just to tweak mileages up or down a tad, confirm everyone's details/job/address/etc.etc is OK and they normally find a few quid from somewhere to offer. On line documentation is very good and as the administrator I've got visibility of everyone's policies too. Just keep an eye on the excesses and I personally don't have any reason to look elsewhere tbh. My Maser' was less than 300 quid this year - much to my son's annoyance - his Volvo V40 - +£500 :)

You'll probably find that your son's insurance is more down to him being youthful bag of testosterone than the car. Years ago the youngsters on a cricket team I played in, were paying more on their insurance than the cost of the car. I reassured that I was 'paying thousands' (of pennies!) too for the 4200 at 40...

Thank you all.

I've 3 cars with them and beat other quotes by a mile, flexible covering an additional car while being sold temporarily for a month very cheaply.

The house and contents is the top cover with unlimited build and typically contents but a tad restricted to individual items of no more than £1,000 which is more restrictive than others.

It beats alternative quotes by over £100 however.

I have separate specialist cover for niche specific items which standard insurance doesn't cover at home and for use away so ....

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll probably give them a go

I was with them for a couple of years but got fed up with the attempt to hike the rate year on year and switched to Aviva this year.

I got a better rate on the multi car and European breakdown for the Alfa Spider at a decent rate. You do need to call them if you’ve more than two cars.

That said Admiral were pretty good on the accident claim we made with them. So service wise couldn’t fault them.

I was also with them. Initial good rates, then renewals seemed steep, but just stayed with it. Had a car written off, got minimal offer, argued for approx three months over amount. In they end they got in an independant Engineer/Assessor whos word I was told would be final, eventually paid out about 3x their initial offer. Cheap payments and savings are good, but you only find out how good when you need to use the insurance in anger.

One thing to be wary of with Admiral is their statement about optional extras. They state they will replace / repair back to manufacturer basic spec, which does NOT include factory fitted optional extras. As long as you list them all though there should be no change to policy price. I have just had this with my 2. I added quite a lot of options on the Cali T and a fair few on the Ghibli and the premium didnt change.
