Admiral Insurance WTF!!

I am currently insured with Admiral for my 42 which was due to run out today. they came back to me a few weeks ago with a renewal price of £425, a rise from last year of £45 which I was a tad upset with as I had zero claims!
I spoke to them the other night to cancel as I was going to SORN the car but also mentioned that I was not happy with the price, they asked me if they could try and get the price down so I thought I would see by how much.
They came back with a staggeringly low price of £220!! only change was my wife was taken off and the payments were reduced from 12 months to 10 months.
1. Why can't they offer you their F**king best deal in the first place to get/keep your custom?
2. I always thought that having your wife down on your insurance reduced the cost.........This was costing me £70 extra.

I had the same experience. Phoned, complained, got rid of Mrs Crud (just off the insurance, I should clarify) and saved a packet.

Bizarrely, the cost of insuring her 800cc two-cylinder Fiat 500 isn't radically different to that of insuring my 6l V12 Vantage. Bizarre!

Agreed
It is all a con
Sometimes having a wife on the policy works in your favour other times it does not. Same as 'choosing' your occupation
I fool around with the options each year on comparison sites to get an acceptable deal for my circs
I have not tried 'phoning them - yet.

Me too. Do it every year with Admiral. Got our 3 cars down to about £1200 including removing the wife from the FF. The renewal was over £2k to start with. Utter BS. I've over 20 years no claims on all the cars, keep the FF in a garage, private driveway for the Mini and 5er. The number of people who just auto renew is massive and that's where they make their money.

Had the same issue with Admiral last year. Over £1800 for all three cars. Got it down to £1200 in the end. Could have taken another £250 off by removing M from the policy but that would have scuppered us when I did my achilles so I'm glad I didn't bother.

Never agree to the initial price they are trying it on.

The cost of paying out to repair your car is insignificant compared with a big personal injury claim, that’s the risk you’re really insuring.

All pretty bizarre. having shopped around and doing the deal over the phone with E sure, it is £50 cheaper to have my car sitting overnight on the street than on my drive!

That's because thieves don't know which door to kick in for the keys so less chance of theft , but if it's stolen off the drive overnight they'll be asking questions before writing a cheque out

I had really good experience with insuring the GTs but it’s gone downhill since.... I was told for the 100k+ cars to go with high end private clients insurance. Is that BS? I am paying £2k for the M1 and DB11. Do you think I could get that down a lot and still have really good cover?

There was something on Radio4 about this and other insurance related issues, this morning. Just before 11.00 a.m. I think. Apparently the insurance industry have committed to 'cleaning up their act' regarding auto renewals, not providing their best quote first and all the many other issues that cost us money. The presenter gave the example of of a home owner who had stayed with the same insurance company for twenty one years. His last auto renewal for house and/or contents insurance was in excess of £2,000 and his renewals had been increasing steadily over the period. When he queried the price to renew this year, the same company was able to reduce his renewal to £500.
I never used to haggle. Now, I never take the first price offered to me for anything. (within reason) This really paid off (pun intended) when I bought my Granturismo. I was relentless with the seller and after much back and forth, got the price reduced by a quarter. Circumstances helped at the time though, I must admit. Sometimes it's a complete nuisance having to haggle. But I find, you ALWAYS save something.

It only costs a phone call to find out.
Not even that. If you insist they call you ;)

I'm sorry. My sympathy is limited. It's not like they don't email / write to you to tell you what the premium is going to be. Yes I screwed up last year by forgetting to cancel one policy, but that was £20 a month, not £150! If I had a £150 a month direct debit coming out, I'd be very sure to make sure that I thought I was getting good value.
It is annoying though that you have to go back to them and get them to reduce the price or go elsewhere but that is part of the price we pay for buying everything on price first and quality second <shrug>

Yes, I heard that too on the radio yesterday. It will be interesting to see how long it take to come into fruition??!!

Why would you have Mrs OR on the FF in the first place?

Mind I should look at the same as I can't remember when Mrs BB last drove the Maser.....I think Cameron was still living in SW1.

It’s now law to put last years premium price on the renewal letter with the new price usually 30 days in advance. This is to combat this.

Also worth noting insurance tax went up substantially this year so a lot of your increase is the extra tax.

And... you'll negotiate a better price if you phone 30 days ahead of renewal. Phone the day before and they know you'll be desperate.

It was once cheaper to have her on but the downside of the feminist equality drive is that it's now not cheaper! :)

I never really understood why it made your insurance cheaper having your wife/partner down on your insurance, it doesn't make the chances of car damage or person injury less likely to happen. Or was it the view that women generally drive slower and are more careful than men??!!
