Hello all.
I have owned a Khamsin for about 10 years and was previously on here under Paul328. However I am here now as a new 4200 owner. I also have a 5000QV; Espada; 328GTS; X1/9 Lido and Barchetta; Passat W8; Audi A8 4.2tdi; So. Now 5 8 cylinders 2 12's and 2 4's. I just need 2 6's and 2 10's!

A friend bought one when they were still current and I helped him drive it back from Norfolk to Glasgow. I was very impressed by it and preferred it to the then current Ferrari 360, which I also drove a few times around then. It felt a more sorted mature car with a better engine and massively more practicality for about the same performance.

Yesterday I picked up my car from the previous careful owner Brendan, down by Hull and drove it back to Glasgow. About 260 miles. This car has Larini back boxes on it. My partner was following for about 40 miles to the hire car return and commented on the lovely noise. for a non car person that was really saying something.

Initial impressions:

  1. It is fast! The performance is easy to feed in and exploit. It did step sideways on the A66 as i was making a necessary quick exit from the Lama Cafe; but the back end pulled back quickly. The performance in every gear seems good and it doesn't feel as if it is 33/1000 in 6th?
  2. I was surprised by the MPG. It seems to be doing about 20mpg on 40m country and 210m motorway drive.
  3. It is very comfortable and quite refined. The larini's drone a bit between 1800-2300 rpm but otherwise is very refined. Side window sealing is very good for that age of car.
  4. The say nav is unfathomable and too small to read! some of the controls feel 80's and not 90's
  5. The handling is def more GT than sports car. I appreciate it is a 15 year old car and I didn't engage sport mode, however it did seem a bit softer than I thought it would be.
  6. It is very discreet. Whereas in my other bangers you get a lot of attention, in this, only a few people notice you. Mine is blue which is possibly a more discreet colour. People seem to notice the noise first then look.
I am glad to add it to my wee collection and to be able to use it. i drove it to work today and will use it as i do the other cars as an everyday car. Yes I do take the QV to Tesco for shopping.

happy for any advice, guidance tips or warnings as clearly you guys have done or seen it all!

Paul

Very nice collection you have there.

Enjoy the 4200 they are very understated edging on classic looks and still keeps up with the more modern stuff

They are a nice car. They are way too "wallowy" to be hustled along with much confidence.
Sport mode helps but not much tbh ! MSP is quite intrusive too.
Manual all day long for me....
Pics please ....

It is only worth money If I sell it! lol. I have had it 12 years. It is quite a well known car. It was on Grand Tour in February in the sketch in the Highlands for Jeremy's birthday party.

Hi Paul, and welcome to the 4200 fold.

The 4200 is quite a discrete car compared to your others, I have a similar experience compared to my bright green Elise, but when someone does notice it, it somehow seems even more special. It shows that they know, they aren't just distracted by the stand out nature of the car. Pointing, and them mounting "that's a Maserati" doesn't get old.

You mention Glasgow, the 5000QV, I presume it's the white one that does the rounds at TartanTarmac / Knockhill? Such a beautiful car, and colour combo.
