Absolute disaster!

Tonight I set off for Monaco on a road trip planned to the nth degree over the past 12 months. I gave the car a thorough check last week and have fitted my new backboxes and a couple of tyres. Finished cleaning and packing the car this afternoon and decided to fuel up ahead of setting off, to save stopping this side of France.

About and hour ago, on the way back from the petrol station, I had moved into lane 1 to exit the motorway just in time to see the brick which had been wedged between the twin rear wheels of the truck in front of me, launch itself into my windscreen.

I now have a ******* 4 inch crack, smack in the middle of the screen! I cannot find words to express the extent of my anger.

Might not be a great consolation right now but if it's just the windscreen that got damaged I think you're lucky. Could have been your face.

Glad you and the rest of the car are safe, but that's a cr@p thing to happen to anyone, never mind when going on a holiday like that! Feel your pain, mate, had a Maserati holiday ruined myself recently, a road trip with my young son to France cut very short by a gearbox pump.

Now go find that lorry and chuck a rock at it!

I am wrestling with my options now. I could take the old Alfa (and probably save about £600 in fuel in the process) or risk it. I am actually staying in Modena on Thurs and Fri, which is arguably the handiest place in the world to be with my predicament, so if it does 'develop' I would imagine with some phoning ahead I should be able to get a screen fitted. Optimistic?

At least you are not hurt AG, the screen will fix..!! Get it on insurance and see if a dealer has one, or you could try such as Autoglass..!! Pain in the wotsit but it happens..!! I had an AC Pump pack in a day or so before I left for Spain, 32 degC with no AC meant I had to drive fast to get as much breeze as I could, bonus..!!

Unfortunately I need to leave, whether it is in the Maserati or not. I've got people to collect on the way and do not wish to let them down.

Ask Maserati UK to ask Modena if they have screens in stock, if they have get it done there..!!

what alfa is it?

Alfa GT 1.9JTDm. It wouldn't have a problem doing it. I've been to Monaco and Monza in it before but this year's trip wasn't about rocking up in a four banger running on the clackety fuel of Satan.

Do it! What's the worst that could happen? If the crack runs from side to side, big deal, it's already kn4ckered. It might not spread, so what? If you put it out of your mind you'll soon forget about it. I wouldn't ruin the trip because of it.

You beat me to it.

FWIW Crack is vertical, with the top starting where the rear view mirror is bonded.

Even better, just use it as a sight line! Glad you are going for it. Have fun!

Windscreen wil not collapse or break into small pieces under any circumstances. Go for it, the worse that can happen is a crack from top to bottom.

Good luck.

If you need help in France I'm here too.

There is "Carglass" here if you need a help to secure your windscreen with resin.
