Abarth

So it seems No.2 Son has a liking for the Fiat 124 and is thinking about swapping his 09 Spider into the bargain.
There happened to be a 124 Abarth near me in a garage so I went along.on his behalf.
The 10 year old in the garage tells me they retail about £28000 and that this one was £23000 with 30 miles on the clock. It is an Auto. Don't know if that would suit No 2. There are a raft of purchase options.
Anyway I sat in it and I must say I was impressed. I am tall and so is No. 2 and the car was not a problem in this respect.
It was comfortable and plenty of 2 seater space. I even toyed with a purchase myself.
Anyway my question is as the 10 year old waffled, what do Abarth bring to the model?
There were also a few Fiat 500 Abarth for around £1500 which looked good

Funnily enough I was in a Fiat garage on Monday picking up an MR2 Mk3 as a summer run around and They also had a 124 Abarth in the show room at 22,498 - some 10k off list. Which makes them very very tempting. A quick google show that there are quite a few pre-registered cars at around 22k - 24k depending on spec. As to your question I think the Abarth “value add” I found this...
“For around £6,000 more than the Fiat 124, you can have the pumped-up Abarth 124. The extra cash not only buys you an aggressive styling makeover – with optional retro rally colour schemes – but an extra 30bhp (168bhp in total), a new suspension tune, a limited-slip differential and more powerful Brembo brakes.
And an obscene exhaust system. This car is louder aurally than it is visually, believe it or not. That is not a compliment. In town, pedestrians will stare at you, while on the motorway you’ll have to turn your music up really loud to disguise its droning.”
