Abarth 595 -2016

I’ve been driving my Dad’s cooking 595C all week on A and B roads. We call it the little red Ambulance as it only seems to get used for high speed trips to and from hospital these days.

The ride doesn’t strike me as particularly hard, but it does hit the bump stops every now and then.

pros - grips and grips, sounds good and the short gearing makes it feel fast (only in Sport mode), still looks fresh, if a little too tall.

cons - seats feel too high and makes my ankles ache a bit, but that might just be me. They’ll always be a faster version out there and there are better colours. Interior not as nice as my wife’s MiTo. Small boot and small fuel tank. Could do with a bit more weight over the rear end as it can be a bit skippy. I think the short gearing would be a disadvantage on motorways.

Overall, the Abarth is good fun, but I still prefer the TwinAir engined MiTo for some strange reason.

Had one for an extended test drive alongside a Mini Cooper JWS.... Abarth much better ride for us, although the standard seats are a little thin. Didn't find the ride overly harsh though, but maybe get yourself into one for a quick blast and see.

Awesome feedback guys! Thinking about a nice bright bumblebee one, fitted with a tow bar for my downhill mountain bikes

I think @Vampyrebat has one…..pm him.
Thanks for the nudge on this Wattie! Mine is a Abarth Punto. In sport mode it is a tad harsh on the bumpies with it being the esseesse as it has larger alloys so skinnier profile tyres, but out of sport mode it's pretty good. I can't comment on the 595 sorry!

I ran one for two year, modded, lowered etc. Approx 230hp was a hoot, but yes felt every bump.

I’ve had 2, one modified (by me) and one standard (brand new)

aslong as you get more than 160bhp turismo / comp, they’re a lot of fun!

One thing about seats. If it has sabelts fitted, they are snug, some people love them , as I did, but others hate them.

We're on our second at the moment as my partners daily, first was a standard car in red, currently a 595 Turismo in met blue.

No trouble with until the battery died the other weekend with no warning whatsoever, perfectly fine Friday night, absolutely nothing Saturday morning. Didn't help that the local motor factors sold me the wrong size battery and shut before I got back!

Great cars, much fun to be had shocking people who don't know they're reasonably quick!

We have a matching one to your old one in Legends Blue which is our daily - it's great fun but yes, it is a very hard ride and you feel every bump. It is on 65k miles though and no sign of changing it so it's a keeper as it's Nicola's favourite colour for an Abarth - it was only available for a few years,

I love the cars but how many guys drive them like? Mainly ladies?
Very good question! They look awesome and clearly, seeing a woman spanking one is just utter coolness.
A man though.. I’m not so sure. No doubt it’s an icon.. but I’m not convinced it’s ‘manly’.
Having said that, I do occasionally drive the missus’s Smart4two so who am I to comment!

160bhp? The last time I had transport with less than that I was on a bicycle. I'm sure they will raise a smile on those not lucky enough to drive a V8, but they smack of Millenials who haven't the desire, or means, to drive a real car. Like lip fillers and weird eyebrows, I just don't get it. That is all.

I drive a 595 comp for everyday use which comes with the sabelt seat and twin pipes either side monza exhaust in podium blue.

Ride is firm and handling is great.

Pound for pound they are absolutly fabulous vfm and in two years its never missed a beat.

I bought one of these recently to replace my daughter's 500.

It's a 595 Turismo 70th with 165bhp which I bought online from Arnold Clark. A 68-plate but with only 6k miles so it's as new.

It's great fun to drive and very nippy. Seats are high and above 6 footers (e.g. my son) struggle to fit in. Short geared and only 5 gears so motorway not great. Other than that a fine car that makes you smile from the moment you start it up and the exhaust burbles into life!

I wonder why they only put a 5 speed box when in Ms French's Twinair 105 bhp she's got 6 and we only use that on the motorways?
