A stalling 4200 CC?!

Hi all, I was out in my 4200 CC yesterday and it stalled in traffic twice? I didn’t realise the CC could stall?!
I’ve done about 10k in an F430 and it never stalled once.
Is this a sign that the clutch is going? Any insight appreciated. Thanks.

That's not good. Was it up hill or flat?

Does it make any difference if in sport or non-sport? Or auto?

I know Voicey has said before that the PIS setting is quite key which is the adjustment of clutch engagement from aggressive to softer with more slip. I've not experienced stalling on a CC but you can definitely feel the TCU interpreting and processing your pedal inputs/moments. He has a suggested best PIS setting.

I tend not to dilly dally around and give the car plenty of throttle as it seems to engage quicker/sharper with less slip and just goes. Sometimes adjusting your throttle too much mid take off can confuse it. Be quite agressive with the throttle and let the electronics work it out.

I wouldn't have thought that clutch wear would be responsible for stalling though as would have thought clutch wear would mean it would slip or not engage gears. Could be a clutch position sensor maybe giving some odd readings. Doesn't sound like clutch wear/life to me if engagements through all gears are all OK at all other times. I certainly had no issues shifting any gears when I had it.

I don't know btw just throwing some ideas into the pot.

Thanks. Slight gradient, nothing major and I was in sport mode, not auto.

I’m going to go out again shortly and see how it is.

It also happened just after having a new battery fitted, which seemed an odd coincidence.

New Battery needs to re adapt settings.
Make sure when you turn ignition on you let the lights go out and then crank her over.

Are you referring to my blue 4200 as that was in New Zealand so different plates but it was a car I shipped over from the UK.

The one in your profile. I want to get a smaller front plate but can’t decide what size and it looks spot on.
Must have been great having that on quiet NZ roads! (my wife is a Kiwi)

100 kmph speed limit was hard at times and I got some demerits.
Drove the whole of NZ twice once in a Classic Mini Cooper on the Pork Pie.
I'm sure your wife will know that iconic 1980 movie ;)

On my old clutch, mine used to have this problem.
Very embarrassing when to staring to leave at the traffic lights and it stalls.
Formerly I always put the car in neutral at the lights then select 1st to go.
If it was slightly uphill it might stall.
Later I used to leave it in first at the lights then gently add throttle.
All things were solved with new clutch, sensor and other bits.

Sounds much more like PIS setting is out or needs revising or possibly clutch position sensor. Seems more like these rather than actual clutch.

A bit weird it has only happened after battery change but could be pure coincidence as can't see how a battery change would affect anything. Unless it is a duff battery possibly but not even sure then how it could cause this issue. Probably coincidental.

I've had odd days where the shifts seemed a bit out of sorts but then fine again next day. Maybe a good Italian tune up is required.

I think it had a little grumble after loosing some memory following the battery change. I would see if it does it again tbh

Thanks all. I took it out yesterday and had no issues. Hopefully just a weird episode after changing the battery
