A last ditch attempt to move the 3200 on:

If it doesn’t go in the next few weeks I may as well keep it and enjoy using it for a couple of years. After that it won’t really owe me anything, whereas now it does owe me a bit … Emblem did such a thorough job on the new cambelt with all new pulley bearings and water pump that I reckon it’ll be good for another couple of years.

I certainly wouldn't give a fine car away that's for sure.
Did any of the bidders from the Auction get in touch or were they hoping to steal it I wonder ?

I did get in touch with the top 2 to try to negotiate an uplift but that failed. It’s peculiar how people lose interest after an eBay auction(?) … it’s as if it never happened! I do have some apparent interest from someone who didn’t bid and I’ve provided further details, but that’s all gone quiet.

I do have a couple of suboptimal px deals I could follow through on, so that’s a fall back, although, keeping it is starting to look like a viable option too … I reckon it’s up together enough to run it for a couple of years on a shoe string budget, with a fair wind, and if I do any servicing work myself …

Selling anything at the moment is a pain. I just sold an X3 yesterday, it took a few months listed at a low ball price to get interest. Then you get everyone offering 30% to 50% less than the already low list price...

I am hoping my GT will find a new home in the next few months, but equally I know every month it doesn't sell, my next car just gets cheaper saving me some money.

I would say that trying to sell a 3200 privately at the moment is almost impossible unless you enter it in a no reserve auction. To do that you’d have to be prepared to take the perceived market value on the day, which is a big risk. Maybe it’ll come to that out of frustration … The market for these cars is incredibly small. I have under 20 watching it on eBay but most of those won’t be buyers.

What really annoyed me when I was selling my 360 Modena when I was leaving the UK was the Muppets wanting to swap cars no use to me at all mostly Japanese cars like Impreza, EVOS and Supras with claims of ridiculous bhp.
I sold it back to the Dealer id bought it from in the end.

Some of those 20 will be people on here wondering what the final figure will be.

You've just got to keep the faith, you only need one person to buy it and they may be awaiting the sale of something themselves..

I had exactly the same when I advertised the 348. One sounded really keen loads of questions and correspondence, then at the end wanted to swap it for some highly modified Japanese effort!

Yes, indeed … and no harm in that, I just watch a lot of things myself! :) But, for those wondering: I think the auction at Christmas got up to around £7,500 which wasn’t quite enough for me. I’ve put £6k into the car over nearly 3 years and, having paid £12k for it, feel it owes me around about £9k right now. But, I reckon I could run it on a shoe string for the next couple of years and then it’ll owe me quite a lot less … Trouble is people want it for a lot less now which flies in the face of all the TLC and outlay that me and the last 3 owners put into it.

Much of that Japanese stuff has been involved in a ram raid of Halfords/Demon Tweeks...often on the side of road by a man with a cheap tool kit.. (consisting of a tin of WD50, an adjustable spanner (metric) and rounded off screwdrivers and the lump hammer)

I have come to the conclusion 95% of people want to buy for the lowest headline figure. They do not care if something has been truly looked after. In some ways, it's better to have not spent money on it as that makes the next owner think they won't need to... If you tell them you spent £6k on a service, most people seem to think you are trying to sell a lemon, rather than a sorted car.

I had someone offer me a "super rare" Hummer as a straight swap for my GT. No I do not want a £10k LHD US shitbox for my GT..

Yep, there’s a lot of that out there. But, on here, we know that any 20 year + Maserati is either going to be a heap of very expensive issues just waiting to spoil your cheap fun or, preferably, has been sorted at someone’s expense. And personally, I think it’s reasonable to recognise that expense in the asking price and accept that these cars are going to be exspensive to put right if they’ve been neglected. My car has had over £45k spent on it during its lifetime …

7.5k you should have sold it! That 1.5k you want is probably going away between insurance, road tax and something goes wrong you have to fix it… my short experience with Maserati has been painful and many potential buyers as already said want the thrill not the expenses.

For £7.5k I’d prefer to give it to the Trade so they can sell it to someone for a proper retail price and make a bit of money out of it …
