A future with Renault?

They must have a USP, and not be a 'sporty' version of bobby basic underpinnings with holes in the wing, sharktooth grille and Maserati badge on the boot, call it the Maserati QP/GS/Ghilbli Cup...

Badge engineering, lije 50/60/70's America.

Proper engine, and no autos....

I hate French cars....
With the exception of some old Citroens
DS was nice!

Plus when classic cars were cheap I looked at a Facel Vega, like the one Ringo Starr had and Camus was killed in. Chrysler engine put me off, much like the current Maserati line-up....57206

Personally I think this will be great for Maserati as the will be the top brand in the group and no more bowing to Ferrari.

They, of course, need to get the engine right.

From an Alfa pov, if the RenaultSport Megane Trophy I drove the other day is anything to go by, it’ll be good to have that hot hatch nous.
Crikey the steering is good - I can usually count the number of brand new cars I’d buy on the fingers of one hand, but the Megane was eyepoppingly good.

And no decent Renaults? The 5 Turbo 1 & 2? The Clio Williams, 172 Cup, 182 Trophy, 200 Cup, Megane R26R, 21 Turbo, 5 GT Turbo, Avantime..?

In years to come there will probably only be three major car companies the way that this is going. I think that was predicted by someone on here a few years back. Makes sense in today's world though but maybe not so good for the small companies that no one wants.

What happened to Maserati the last time the French were involved was tragic.
Hopefully the influence will be minimal and like it has been said the engine will be critical.
Renault have made some really great classic hot hatches but big fast v8s ?? zero.

I think this is a much better tie-up than working with PSA. The brands compliment each other. Some competition on the AB ranges, but aimed at different markets.

It should give Alfa Romeo and Maserati the stability to build cars that are fitting to the brands.

I think we’ve seen the last V8 though. New cars will be V6 + electric.

Mergers are inevitable in the motor industry, the changes coming down the line will impact the market for ever and those that don't embrace this will fail.

Renault are more aligned to Alfa & Maser than many other manufacturers with a clear motorsport derived heritage and have successfully maintained sporting models within their more generic model range.

And they did supply the engine for the De Lorean (I think) and for many, many Countach replicars.....
