My mum came from Corsica, she was Italian descent not French as lots on the island still are!
Apparently the French blagged the island in some treaty a couple hundred years ago from the Italians.
I remember going over there in the early 80's watching the rallying, bombs were going off every where, anything French was a target!

The Republic of Genoa sold Corsica to France at the Treaty of Versailles in 1768.

Corsica was British 1794-1796 and briefly in 1814.

My grandfather had the only car in the family when I was born. It was a white peugeot 404 sedan. Beautiful car (pininfarina design?). That was the first car I've ever been in and still have memories of it. Unfortunately by the end of 80s had rusted through and was scrapped.
