A/C leak Gransport

After having the car sit in the garage a couple of weeks, it seems the A/C isn't cooling. This became obvious quickly in the 30 C plus heat here in Brisbane. So got a mobile A/C guy out to test and he found evidence of a leak coming from the main central vent in the cabin. He says this indicates an evaporator leak. Says it would be a dash off job to replace. It seems evaporator comes as a complete set only. They contacted the Maserati dealership who quoted $5200 for the part only ex Italy! Said it might cost another $3000 AUD for labour. The part no. is 67707800. At Eurospares, going for GBP 1140. Autovivo.it have it listed for EUR 1680. Is there anything else that should be checked before I proceed with all this? It makes clutch replacement look relatively cheap!

I would get a second opinion.
I have not personally had any dealings with this company on the Gold Coast http://maranelloautos.com.au/ but I did speak to them a few weeks ago while I was on the Gold Coast and I was comfortable with their Maserati skill set. Pretty sure my brother used them while he lived in AU with his Maserati 4200.

PS Air con efficiently can be impacted by all the leaves / dead flies / muck that will be jammed between the water radiator and air condenser.

That is a complete pita. Evaporator leaks are rare (in all forms of AC) but they do happen.

I am not a fan of electronic leak detectors being the only source of leak confirmation, they can be a little paranoid, so a second opinion might well be in order. A pressure test with oxygen free nitrogen would be useful and would help to rule out the usual suspects of condenser and hoses before you remortgage your house. Of course the leak might be at a joint adjacent to the evaporator which might well mean it is repairable.

It can also be a problem of electrical mass. The relay of the A / C may have error in the pin number 85. it connects a mass with the pin 85 and test
