No offence but the stripe on a regular 360 is the same to me as an M3 badge on a 320d :) best left untouched imho
320d along way from an M3 where as a 360 Modena F1 with the extra goodies is pretty close.
She was like that when I bought her Andi enjoyed her track days and all :)

In another car-unrelated forum they are discussing the new Mustang, calling it a 'supercar'. Now, (sorry Rockits) it isn't. But what defines 'supercar'? It's not cost, I tend to think is a bit like class in an English social standing kind of way.

All Masers, Fezzas, Lambos, AM's even Bristols are supercars. Audis, Beemers, even Alfas etc aren't (IMHO)

I think a GT3 is a great call - but the 996 is just too ugly (front that is) - esp when an extra 10k gets you a gen 1 997
Presume you mean a Gen 1 997 GT3 and not a 997 Gen 1 with the chocolate engine.
You'd struggle to get a Gen 1 997 GT3 for £90k. Maybe a Comfort spec?

But £80k would buy a 996 GT3 Club Sport and the Club Sport is the one to go for - the Comfort is still very nice though.

Masers and Astons aren’t supercars. They’re GTs. Not all Ferraris are supercars either.

In my mind a supercar has to be mid engined, properly fast, a bit outrageous and slightly flawed. A 512BBi is a supercar a Dino 246 isn’t.

that's a lovely car, I do like the old 911 look, I was well informed that Porsche prices are starting to cool though??
Many prestige car prices have softened. Porsche are no exception - but prices for anything with the coveted RS badge is still to dollar. Try looking up prices of 997 and 991 GT3 RS cars. I know a few owners and they are not seeing prices falling - the RS is a strong car with a strong list of buyers for clean, low mileage cars with top history. Some use ot only for a Euro trip to the Nurburgring and drive it back again and laid up except for the odd trip round the Nth Wales Evo Triangle and a trip to Hawes in the Dales.

Totally agree one of the best cars I have bought is our 05 987.1 3.2 S
What a quality car all around I don't think I can say anything negative about the poor man's Porsche ;)

The 986 and 987 Boxsters are great value for money and of course they are still Porsche cars! The brand has a different standing - neither better or worse than Italian but just different. I appreciate the difference in both which is why I did not see me changing from Porsche to Maserati but added an Italian as a stablemate for the Turbo.

An excellent topic in itself, and worthy of a fresh thread. But I can't be ar5ed to start one, especially seeing as the forum's wisdom is already gathering around more or less the same topic here.

So, is clearing the mortgage as fast as possible the best use of spare cash, or are there better ways to use leftover coin?
Lots of views.
Another one is it depends on your Mortgage rate.....if it’s 3% and you’re earning10% on
Investments then I’d not bother paying it off.

Not sure why you need to apologise? It is really not needed to me anyway.

I'd 100% agree that a Mustang is not what I would term a 'supercar' although the term seems to be very blurred these days.

For me a supercar is a car that stirs the soul, is something a little different from the average cars out there. IMHO I don't see many Porsches or some Ferrari's often as supercars as their numbers are too great and just to common. For me the rarity and smaller numbers is part of what combines with other aspects to earn that supercar moniker.

Think I got the wrong person, sorry!

To me supercar means rare, the very real prospect of huge bill tomorrow, imagining noises, but fundamentally built for a very small and distinct niche..

MC12? Valkyrie?

I take your point, though. For me, it has to be fast, uncomfortable and impractical to qualify. Although... most cars now are comfy and practical, even ‘super’cars. On that basis my simple definition fails.

Regardless, I think my Vantage is epic. Whether it’s super, sports or just great, I love it.

Check out auto trader, PH and classics. Gen1 997 GT3 can be had for much less than 90k.
A very well know London indy is selling his own for £72k...and that’s not the comfort pack :)
90-95k gets you a gen2

Pay off the mortgage. Especially if he's in the building trade as there will be another market collapse in the next few years, and if he's particularly unlucky he'll find himself with a massively reduced income, a big mortgage, and a flashy car that he won't be able to sell because the kind of person that would buy it is in the same turmoil as him.

Once the mortgage is paid off, start putting the equivalent amount into a savings account and use it to buy the flashy car. If he's got a reasonable £2k a month mortgage he'll quickly accumulate a decent wodge of podge.

He'll then feel like he's earned it! Which will make it more special. And he'll be in a far more financially stable position come the recession with no mortgage and a chunk of savings in the bank.

Had a beer with him and a few of the boys this afternoon.
He mentioned that the main reason that he won't be paying off all of the mortgage is because of the redemption fee, which is a whacking 7%!
Earlier this year he remortgaged his house and put a big lump into his property business.
If he paid off the mortgage in it's entirety he would have to pay a redemption fee of just under 30k.

With the boring financial bit out of the way we got back to cars.

He likes the Maser GC. And the F430. And a 911. And the Merc AMG GT.

His missus is suggesting they buy a villa in Greece now though!
I told him to spend it before she has any other ideas!

Perhaps use a chunk to emulate Grandma. Keeping the capital available if needed whilst setting targets - once achieved, etc., etc. This time next year Rodney etc., etc.

Do you know the way to get around a redemption fee?

Read the terms and conditions. What you'll find is that it will say over what period the 7% is charged on the remaining balance. Find that number, let's say it's 3 months. Then pay off all but 4 months worth. Let's say that leaves £8k in the mortgage account... The 7% is then charged on that amount. Which is £560.

And with the £29.5k he's just saved he could buy an early GTS; win-win.

For me It’s the F430 on that short list but I’m getting the feeling he’ll want low maintenance, easy to use car so I’m glad you mention the AMG GT.
That was going to be my suggestion and for his budget, he’d get a great AMG GT-S.
I can’t help noticing the R’s are nearing the £100k mark and the cars advertised aren’t moving which reflects the current buyers‘ market. That R is about the only (nearly in-reach) car that would get me out of the Stradale....... actually, no it wouldn’t!!

I think the MC12 is a race car for the road, if you’d said Bora then maybe but I think they’re too good. I’m with you on that I don’t think a 488 is sh!t enough to be a supercar.

Love your car though, apart from the lack of colour.
