4200 Steering Rack

Morning everybody!
I had some insurance work done on my 4200 (04 plate) and the garage said separate to the work that my steering rack was leaking and had to be replaced.

They subsequently tried to charge me a ridiculous amount of money; but after a little investigation I read on a forum that leaks are commonplace and fixes are inexpensive.

I can't find said threads

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, just so when I take it for a second opinion I have a little bit of knowledge up my sleeve.

Thanks in advance.

It will only be seals that need replacing.
Problem is I wouldn't want an immobile car on my lift whilst trying to sort.

I doubt there is anything specific but the rack is made by TRW so worth looking to see who local to you recons racks maybe or strip and takes seals to a hydraulic repair company.

I got a second hand rack for my 3200 from David Askew it was probably less than getting one refurbed.

If the 3200 and 4200 gaiters are the same, I used some 911 ones: Thread here
