4200 Spyder roof closing ‘pause’

Closing the roof today after a week open in the garage and as the rear spirals reached ~5” before engaging for closure everything stopped - no pump and no action either way plus windows inop.

Checked the fuses and OK; operated Switch 2 and this drove the top rear closers. Called the Wee woman to lean on the rear cover while I operated 2 to close up and just as she arrived I idly operated Switch 1 and heard a click (this locks the hard cover. Pressed 2 and I think the closure completed or I used the roof switch to finish. All OK after this.

Can only think that somehow the system forgot the hard latch operation and an interlock stoped everything until I manually did the job. Have not dared operate the hood as we are now in Devon. Any clues?

The cover hood (the door) has a switch on the latches that make sure they're engaged. The latches are adjustable and if set too tight they might not properly engage. That may be why some people burn out the latching motor and it may cause a problem like yours. The manual release behind the driver's seat (LHD) should release the cover with an easy push.

If you’re near SportsItalia I am happy to diagnose it for free. We have diag that tests all the micro switches which I suspect it is.

Thanks all. After the ‘pause’ incident we have operated the roof at least twice daily without issue all week while wafting around in the heat of Cornwall. As ever, a bit of 28deg. warmth and use seems to have solved whatever issue was there. It will be coming over to SI later this year for service etc so I’ll a a roof diag to the list - thanks Matt.

Devon/Cornwall potholes seem to have exacerbated a rattle that I thought was in the door but more likely from the rear. A lightweight rattle which sounds like something loose rather than a suspension bush. Will have to wait until we return to inspect though visited Oily Rag Classics (Jensen and Mancunians in a tiny village) to see if we could spot something but their ramps were full.
