Would love to jump on this bandwagon, but I am not sure I can handle it. I have no problem wrenching, did my own heater core, and have no issues swapping headunits on other vehicles. I guess if we had this down to a step by step, I would feel a lot more comforatble.

You and I are on the same bandwagon. Going to gather parts and notes, and set it aside for the dark days of winter, where prolonged absence of Coupe time won’t be missed.

I’m making up a long 40 pin IDC ribbon for the screen so I can mount the main unit where the factory double DIN unit goes.
No problem if you're removing/moving the NIT/screen. There will be space above the airbag ecu for that module - probably easier access to it too.
The existing ribbon cable (looks like an old PC IDE cable) should be long enough.

I've toyed with CarPlay. Came to the same conclusion Navcorr. It would need some thought but revitalise the central console would transform

Hehe you thought the same as I did - 40 Pin IDE... I bought an extension cable and when it came I was like “D’Oh!” The plugs into the original cable are 2mm pitch rather than IDE’s 2.57mm, so I’ve had to order 1mm pitch ribbon and the appropriate 2mm plugs separately to make my own up! What a pain!

I considered stripping back the housing on the main unit so I could hide it away somewhere closer to the screen, but then I’d have to extend the ISO wiring from under the arm-rest. Figured just extending the screen would be more straightforward.

Cheers, i thought as much and planned the same. I have to check if I can extend the dedicated cable of the Pioneer unit I have in mind.
