Hi,

My 4200 is stranded in the garage & the engione won't turn over, any suggestions about how to proceed?
The battery is well charged, cables on tight, fusesseem ok, engine relay tested ok.

I put the key in, let the dashboard illuminate and then go out - no warning lights at this stage. Foot on brake, N in gear
indicator and turn key to start - just a click and a bit of a whir but the engine doesnt turn over. Now, my gut feeling is starter
motor solonoid but after browsing the forum and reading so much about the F1 pump failing i am now wondering
if this could also be the cause. After attempting to start the motor the red CC warnuing light is on but goes off again
when i take the key out and put it back in.

Can anymore tell me what the symptons are when the F1 pump fails? I can hear something when i open the car door
and can also select "1" and "R" (well the dashboard indicator changes anyway). I guess this would not be possible if the
F1 pump was dead?

Looking at the dismantling procedures i'd like to be fairly sure what i'm replacing is duff before starting so i can buy
the relevant bits&bobs/gaskets etc in advance.

Any advice? Thanks and nice weekend

Martin

Sounds like it may be an earth problem maybe one broken.
Do you have a multi meter?
Check to see you have at least 12 volts.
Now turn the ignition on and see what voltage you now have.
Go to crank the engine and see what you get.
It could just be the battery maybe that has a cell gone down.
30 years in the trade batterys fail in the summer as well as the winter.
Best of luck with it.
