4200 misfire

My car is booked in for its annual & mileage related service in October at Emblem. Nothing has gone wrong at all in what is almost a year of ownership, however I have recently had a couple of symptoms which concern me.

First, I have had a slight misfire on a couple of occassions in the last week. Sort of feels like its firing on less than 8. It was doing it this morning on the way to work, then fine most of the way home. Also, and maybe I am being paranoid here, it "sounds" different and it feels as if the power is not there. Oil pressure fine, oil consumption zero - no CEL or other visible signs of harm.

Putting two and two together and getting at least five, could I have issues with my cats breaking up, partially blocking one bank - hence the misfire? Should I ignore it for three weeks and take the car to Emblem then or play safe and call them in the morning?

Hi Dom,
I would play safe and call them...
not sure how many miles you do, but 3 weeks worth could add up to a lot!

Enzo.

Took the car down to Emblem this morning. Myles took it for a drive, hooked up to SD2 and had a good listen. All checks out OK, so massively reassured - paranoia attack over. Great sunny drive home along some fantastic roads - big smile!

So good to have Emblem close by - what good service.

It does sound like plugs - Myles said as much.

Loz's guide is spot on - what more could you ask for in a forum?

Dom..there is a thread on buying plugs from the USA......but you'd need to buy two sets to make the postage economical as the guys did off the forum....let me know.

Hi Dom, If you want to order from the US, PM me and I'll get you a deal on one set that won't cost you in postage.

I had a similar problem - EOBD light showing, engine not running as smoothly as it should.
I took into my local indy - Shiltech in Loughborough, yesterday and the misfire was traced to a dodgy plug. I had all eight changed, and took heed that the car would benefit from bringing forward the 43,500 mile service. I have now booked it on for ten days time and will get a few other niggles done at the same time.

The drive on the way home was a revelation - eight cylinders is definitely preferable to seven!

Good to know David!

Are the Denso Iridium worth it over the stock ones?

Dom

Dom, the guys on the forum swear by them, 8 sets were bought from the USA in pairs, worked out around £50 odd for a set, compared to £80 or so over here.
