4200 Manual Clutch / Engine Light / Suspension

My 4200 has just had the clutch master cylinder replaced by a specialist. This has solved the problem I had of not being able to engage a gear until after the car had warmed but has created other issues. The clutch now slips under hard acceleration (which it didn’t before) and the clutch pedal firmness is all over the place - sometimes firm and working fine with biting point high, sometimes soft and with biting point at the very bottom of the pedal

Lifting the clutch pedal seems to temporarily firm it up (as I’ve been advised on here). Specialist has drained the system and pressurised (?) it a couple of times but the same keeps happening. I’ve been told before that the clutch was fine, but now being told it needs replacing due to wear.

They replaced the water tank top with one that has a drain coming off it (a tube which runs from the top of the lid down through the engine) as I was having to top up engine water a lot. But it doesn’t seem to have hd any effect.

I’ve also now got the yellow engine light constantly on (which they’ll check with the diagnostics kit soon). But no noticeable issues.

And finally, I’ve got constant squeaking (like rusty bedsprings) from the front left suspension. I’ve been told it’s bushes that need doing.

Any input on these issues greatly appreciated!

Only input I can provide is to check the return spring on the clutch pedal. The spring needs to be in good condition to return the pedal all the way.

When you bleed the clutch on a manual, you have to manually pull the clutch pedal all the way up hard to let more fluid in. If you don't, you just keep pumping air.

The bearing is the same as the CC bearing and is the slave in the system so check that the seals have not gone and you would expect to see fluid running out of the bell housing.

Without seeing it, its impossible to diagnose but should give you some checks for the simple stuff first.

Take it back to the 'specialist' they should pit it right if they really know what they are doing.
