Considering either of these on the 4200. There's already an X pipe on it.
How does the noise compare, GS back boxes with valves open, to larini back boxes, unvalved version?

I would say the larini would be loudest easily.
The larini have no baffling or wadding at all, just an empty can, I used my inspection camera for a look inside my unvalved larinis.

Less is more...
Caveat emptor- In Larini world..that's quite literally true...and some. A whole lot less costs a boat load extra. You decide...!? lol
Have you considered getting a pair of OEM Tubi's ( for that is what they are on your 4200) reworked by Jason of eBay fame. See link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Maserati-4200-Exhaust-Rear-Silencers-Refurbished-Modified-And-Polished/114047036699?hash=item1a8dbbad1b:g:HEsAAOSwSsZcj7tw&LH_ItemCondition=3000
Several of us have his back boxes , and in differing states of de-tune. Contact him and discuss your needs- he has a pretty good understanding of these boxes and noise by now !

This is what I did with my GS - pleased with the sound (would not want any louder to be honest) and the saving in my pocket (to probably spend on the car in another way!)

I agree, everything larini sell costs too much, usually far too much. However, they are a known quantity, I know what to expect from the sound.

Re Tubi, are you saying the standard 4200 boxes are Tubi?
I’ve heard Tubi on a 4200 and they sound different, certainly more muscle car-ish, and not the more raspy sound of Larini?

Also, I was considering getting my existing boxes done by Jaren before, but there was some debate about whether they were much louder?

tl;dr can confirm Larini is loudest and build quality is high.

They sound very different. I made a video of a Larini and an OEM muffler on the same car at the same time
Link is at the correct spot. I'd say the Larini valved closed is is as loud as the OEM valve open. Open on the Larini is a significant change and that is with nothing else done. The Larini is definitely louder. I have a boroscope at home, I'll stick it inside and take some photos for you in a couple of days. I'm taking my car in for some other exhaust work later this week so I may end up putting the OEM ones back on and selling the Larini's if its too loud with everything else, but I'll see how I go.

I tried to use my boroscope yesterday but it broke :saifi: Anyway, I've ordered another on off of ebay and will let you know.

I test drove a couple with Larini back boxes. I thought the drone was much too loud.

They do drone a bit if you're in the wrong RPM for sport mode for sure.
