Hi All,

Did anyone ever work out a solution for the buttons on the key breaking up? One of mine has started to go and they seem to be like hens teeth when you ask the specialist breakers.

Only option would be to buy a new key and that's not cheap........

one of mine did the same ,it split on the boot opening button as you have to really push that button to get it to work.
I had a brand new key that was around £290 if i remember correctly but although i can code it to the car i cannot get the transponder to recognise without spending more money to get someone to duplicate or authorise it to the car.
I dont know of any solution other than a new key though ,sorry

Its the rubber face which eventually fractures......through use...poor design....ultimately.

I found my spare key didnt work the night before i was leaving for a long trip to Southern Spain. After opening the key up i found it was the surface mount button which had snapped away from the circuit board. I actually managed to repair it by "very" carefully filing away with a jeweler's file at the epoxy (on the tiny switch) where the lugs should have been. I then managed to solder on some extended legs and attach it back onto the circuit board. Its not easy but is doable, woudl have been easy had i my new glasses. Unfortunatly, i didnt take any photos cos i was in a rush.

I agree P in that it's a very poor design. The way the rubber is formed it cannot fail to fracture with use. Would have been better to have hard plastic buttons with springs behind them, like some more mainstrem manufacturers.

If Sd or anyone else does find out about replacements from USA then please shout up as it makes sense to buy a few in ( I'm sure most would buy two each to keep in stock).

My good lady did for my buttons by putting my only key through a hot wash cycle with my overalls. ( a tense moment I can tell you ) I would certainly be up for buying some replacement rubber covers. Maserati not suppling replacement parts is nothing but a crime. Surely someone out there knows of a firm that could make a mold and churn out a few hundred ? I'm sure there is a market for these. Eagerly awaiting !

So JP...they aren't making what spare bits ........or just keys or just the bits that make it up......I know there are difficulties, the cars are only 4 years only....maximum.....nothing short of criminal!!!

We need to make representation about this......................not good enough, its perfectly ok for built in obsolesence to apply to white goods....BUT NOT OUR MASERATIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Making the mould is the expensive part, there would have to be a production run of several thousand to make it vialble.
some small workshops may be able to knock out small quanties cheaper.

if some one could post some pics of the parts reqiured I will ask around my contacts here in the midland, I have had loads of specials made for projects so someone may know someone who I can talk to.

Am sure this is a worldwide problem, we could circulate this in the 10 biggest markets/forums and that would cover 90%+ of cars made, is the key similar to the 3200 key?

........well.......before we do anything, need to find out how common, do a poll on the relevant forums to see how many would buy one, then work out how doable/VFM it might be.

My main key that works is fractured, my 2nd key which appears to have been used little, is perfect.

you would have to be the agent for Ireland, but beware, I would set high sales targets and expect you to achieve these, then i would raise them.

Emmmm...Rob....am the tail that wags the dog.......................I've been head hunted that often............employers think I am from Borneo.....;)

pictures of button(s)

Hope these are clear enough to see what the item looks like.

I was going to look for a latex based glue to see if I can repair mine as it hasn't totally fallen apart.
