4200/GS X and H pipes.

Whoop whoop! My X-pipe is fabricated and on its way to me...

I’m going to try to do some before and after vids, so I can easily listen to both and see the difference.

My car currently has standard rear boxes, an unsilenced H-pipe, and Larini decat race pipes and whilst it sounds awesome when accelerating hard in 2nd or 3rd, and gear changes are accompanied with a very aggressive snarl, it’s a bit muscle car ish, and not entirely to my taste.

So we will see what an x-pipe does to it...
The Larini decat race pipes may mean you get a difference with an X-pipe on the GS. Mine is bog standard with an X-pipe and very little difference in all honesty. Inside the car, cannot hear any difference - no crackles or pops on overrun or growl at high revs. Maybe people outside on the street can hear it? Doesn't sound anything like the videos I have seen. But there is a noticeable improvement in power and quickness - probably through better scavenging of exhaust gases with less resistance through the X-pipe. let us know what a difference the X-pipe makes and perhaps an audio/video clip of before and after?

Well I have a bog standard GS exhaust system with one change - the centre section has been replaced with an X-pipe. Mine does not sound ANYTHING like that in the video. Is it standard exhaust with X-pipe or has it been seriously hacked and modded? Curious.....
He’s shown his exhaust set up on one of the posts in the YT comments, my guess is that the decats give it the high pitched sound.

That’s one reason. The other is that it has what would be described in America as a “true x”. This is where the x design has the two pipes crossing over at 90 degrees to each other rather than the Larini style which is where the pipes meet at a shallower angle.

So its decat and not bog standard GS exhaust with the central section replaced with X-pipe? I'd siggest that anyone contemplating X-pipe on standard GS exhaust consider X-pipe for better throttle response and not for sound and crackles and pops on over-runs.

I'm thinking about changing from 'H' to 'X' as doesn't sound loud enough to me, but then compared to my old 4200 that's not surprising!

BennyD, I need an X pipe. Currently have Tubi Style mufflers, sport cats, main cat delete. Looking to bump the sound to the next notch. Can you fix me up?
