Just following up on this thread. Someone has suggested I buy some standard backboxes from ebay, ask Jaren to refurbish them and remove a bit of the internal wadding to get a sound that doesn't have the drone and the loudness would sit between the standard and the GS exhaust which would probably be fine for me (and not silly money). What do people think?
My QP has Jaren boxes too. No drone at all.

If you did make the changes you would still have to get the car tested and its compliance updated via the DVLA... all at cost.

My GS is listed as Euro 3 despite being Euro 4 spec as Maserati it seems didn’t supply the correct information at the time if registration. That said, a recent check on TFL said it was exempt so maybe Maserati have now updated DVLA.

Yes the headers were changed, euro 4 headers have the cat integrated in them. Euro 3 do not and it is the better overall design, many convert their Euro 4 to 3 but not the other way around.

Hi Matt. It was me you spoke to on the bay lol. Anyway just to reiterate mostly what others on here have said. I'd go Jaren route if I was you, whether GS or standard. My Jaren /GS setup doesn't drone except at idle, and valves open. Close the valves and it goes. But interestingly once on the move, you cannot tell if valves open or not... And there's no drone with either, to my ears. NOTE I also have a X pipe fitted as well.

There's also no noticeable power difference with valves open or closed (I have the key fob switch).

If u do want the standard boxes... PM me on here rather than buying off bay... I'll give you a better price

To the OP; when I first fitted modified GS boxes to my spyder, I put a button under the steering column shroud to manually open the valves. However, I found that if I left them closed and accelerated hard, the valves would open automatically as the vacuum escaped back into the inlet manifold (I’ve since fitted a one way valve in the line so that doesn’t happen any more). Under normal use with a bit of acceleration and a bit of overrun, the vacuum kept the valves closed so you don’t really need a Larini remote open/close switch. Best you fit the GS vacuum tank as its bigger than the one fitted to the 4200. It’ll cost about £80 to rig up a switch if you buy the vacuum solenoid and vacuum tank new.

@BennyD I run mine with the standard tank and it's fine... It only runs out of vacuum if I am messing with the switch then it might take 30 seconds for the valves to close up again - I see no drama with that.

For the sake of £20 or so, I’d rather be able to open and close the valves at will.

What Jag have you got Ian ?
Your collection keeps on growing :)
How's the projects coming on cars and bikes ?

It‘s a stage 2 F Type R cab pushing out about 625bhp. It’s a very surprising and capable car, I just did a 320 mile round trip to see Dem and the guys at the pub and, with the roof down and air con on, it averaged 36.8mpg. On track it was doing about 4. 0-60 in about 3 seconds and a top end of about 200. Sadly, the TTRS had to go as it was cheaper than the wife to get rid of. The GS750 is just waiting for a silencer to be rechromed, the GT750 engine is going away next week for a full rebuild including crank seals. The GPz550 is very nearly done and the Chevette is going away next month for a full respray. The Jensen Healey and Quattro will be on ice until next year. Lots to do and plenty of time to do it!

I think the F Type is one of the best (if not best) contemporary cars on the road today in both FHC and cab guises!

Also, It handled better than Krishna's 720, albeit that was on winters. Return match needed!

Hi Delmonte. V grateful for your advice. I’ve taken it and on Monday Jason is going to start work refurbishing and slightly modifying the two back boxes. Sorry not to have bought yours but he had a set…(and said he was looking for more so you might want to try him?)
