I’ve had the 4200 for coming on 3 years and been a member on here since purchase, thanks for everyone’s help! I don’t really want to sell it inevitably but life has changed and we’re not going to be able to use it as I would like to due to the appearance of a little boy so I am trying to be sensible.

I’m the third owner, the first having it less than a year and second being a family friend who has had several Maseratis and proper Alfas. It’s never used as the primary vehicle, long trips only, mainly length of the country motorway journeys and several continental trips. Garaged throughout it’s life and under an indoor cover. I purchased an outdoor cover 18 months or so ago but decided that it was too stressful being on the driveway so moved it to a family members garage.

It’s been tucked away in the garage for the last 12 months whilst moving house and dealing with a baby, although I have obviously turned it over regularly and been around the block (many times!) to keep it all moving. Full service and MOT just done by Giallo in Kent. Here’s the full griff:

Maserati 4200
2003/03 car originally bought from Stratstone Maserati in Wilmslow.
Grigio nuvolari with avorio leather, slightly darker piping and black carpets
Rare Manual Gearbox
74,000 miles
Red brake calipers
Heated seats
18” 7 spoke wheels
Skyhook suspension
Naturally, all paperwork from purchase, receipts throughout it’s history, manuals, brochures, both keys and tool kit are present and correct.

Serviced religiously by main dealers initially and then Maserati/Italian car specialists.
July 19 service and MOT just done by Giallo Maserati who have looked after it for the last 3 years. Work done this time:

  • New brake lines and pipes throughout
  • Replacement expansion tank

  • Wheels fully refurbished as I couldn’t handle seeing it with some scuffs I did on a toll booth in Italy...

  • One advisory on the MOT is for corrosion of the springs to the front corners. I haven’t done this work by choice but obviously accept that it will need doing in the relatively near future.

Other recent work:
  • New rear tyres 500 miles ago and the fronts are good. Michelin Pilot Sports 4s all round.

  • 2 years ago it had new; AC compressor, full set of power steering pipes, power steering radiator, coolant radiator, handbrake cable and a replacement linkage made for the connection between gear selection cables and gearbox in order to tighten everything up. I also had a clip made to secure the linkage between cable and ball joint as am aware these can pop off in similar designed mechanisms.

  • New windscreen 2 years ago as the original had cracked. Replacement is genuine Maser’ screen.

  • Paintwork touched up throughout which is now faultless save for one small 50p coin area beneath the rear off side tail lights.

  • Rear wheel bearing replaced and I believe I have a spare tucked away somewhere

Clutch wear is fine, nothing noticeable and the bite point is well towards the bottom of the pedal. Disc wear is nothing to write home about and I have a new, full set of discs that I can add into discussions should someone want them. Interior is in very good condition, again, no issues to mention - the leather on the steering wheel has started to bubble which I am aiming to sort in the coming weeks. I am being completely honest with all this as I do not want to waste anybody’s time and I hope you can see that I have really cared for it and it certainly has not been neglected - far from it

Looking for £14,000 but happy to talk sensibly, especially if it goes to someone on the forum which is the only place it’s advertised at the minute. I’ve an indoor cover which is included and a custom outdoor cover which has been used for about a fortnight that I can add into discussions should it be required.

If and when it goes it will be dearly missed, as everyone on here knows, they’re incredible machines and ridiculous value for money. I will certainly be looking for another in a few years, if only to experience the stunning engine again which is a total masterpiece. It’s currently not getting any time on the road and they’re very much something that needs to be used regularly and enjoyed in my opinion. This one has been enjoyed and looked after rather than left covered up for years on end in order to preserve mileage - something I value more highly than the British obsession of low mileages.

Pictures below (I have more) and the private plate is to be removed. If you’ve got this far then well done and please feel free to ask give me a call.

Cheers, James

Nice write up & photos. Lovely looking example and GLWS. Mathew & Sharon at Giallo are great.
Chose there instead of a much closer alternative and really pleased I did. Thanks to Catman's recommendation.

Wow she's a Stunner.
What a lovely combination.
I'm sure a new owner is lurking here.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. It's a lovely thing and a shame to be selling, especially as I have invested so heavily with a view to keeping it but things change.

Hopefully it'll go to someone who will appreciate it and look after it deserves.

This is still available chaps if anyone is interested in a good manual at the minute.

I've sourced a more suitable (and sensibly priced!) garage and am therefore equally tempted to hold and enjoy it should nobody be keen at the minute.

Thanks, J.

Afternoon all. After one chap got cold feet on a Maserati and someone else bought a different exceptional manual, my 4200 is heading up north into storage (free!) shortly and I will put it back on the road again next spring. Inevitably this will come at a cost in the new year to me, so if someone wants to grab an embarrassingly cheap bargain and insult me now is the time to get in touch.

Cheers, James.

Have you tried WBAC to see what they would offer?

Also my brother's place Motorway is free for seller's to sell on to try to get some decent higher bids. It's free so no risk or harm in trying.

My offer would be not just insulting but with a really big kick in the b4lls as well. Just bought a V8 Vantage and also just had a deal agreed on another TVR today.

I think these cars are worth keeping. I hope you change your mind. Let me know if you are going to pass by? Thanks for your very honest informative and open chat about these cars as well as about your own car. I wish every seller of cars was the same!

At least you're honest and congrats on the Vantage - love them, they're on my shortlist.

I am not prepared to get involved with WBAC to be honest - promised myself i would never do it again after they took my eyes out for an Alfa GT!

Cheers.
