I think I'm going to have to fit a new clutch to my 4200 CC this winter. From what I've read on this forum Valeo clutches have caused problems in the past through tang failure. Eurospares are listing Valeo clutches, will these be an improved version or are they best avoided? Does anyone know?

Tang failures believed to be down to a dodgy batch several years ago.
Probably your best bet is call Ross at Meridian, mention the forum, and collect your 10% discount.

I would buy one from Meridian not Eurospares and you will have a brand new "from the factory" clutch . Buy from anywhere else and you may end up with old stock and one of the dodgy batch .

I bought my (manual) clutch from Meridian. Ross was great to deal with.

To add to comments from others, there is only 1 clutch manufacturer for the 4200 so don’t dwell too much on the Valeo bit.

Does anyone know how to differentiate a good one from a dodgy one on a 4200?

Are you saying that Valeo makes clutches for Maserati themselves?

It's the same for Alfa GTA clutches, you buy one in an alfa box and it's exactly the same as the one in the valeo box. The genuine Alfa one even has valeo written on it. Or if you wanted to be different, you could buy a QH clutch. Which also has valeo written on it...

I don't know whether to be surprised or not, but it's no surprise that the older I get the more cynical I become. So in other words to avoid the risk of buying an old stock possibly dodgy clutch from Valeo I can buy a "Genuine Maserati Clutch" from----Valeo.

Only a batch or a date stamp . Just buy one from Meridian. They price is the same and you won't be changing it again in 10 k miles . My gs clutch is on about 80% and still going strong and will probably go all the way .
