Has anyone changed the auxillary drive belt on their car? As I've got the front bumper off the car in order to change the radiator I thought now might be a good time to change the belt on mine.

1. You can replace the radiator without the need to remove the front bumper. as per my post.

2. As for the auxiliary belt, have a look at my posting for replacing air conditioner compressor as I am sure I mention it there, replacing the auxiliary belt is surprisingly easy.

As you say it's not particularly difficult, I was just curious as to how many had done it themselves. As I'm replacing the engine radiator I thought it would be a good idea to do it at the same time. I am also changing the belt tensioner as again it's easier at this stage. The other thing I'm in the process of doing is a repair to the secondary air system pipework. There's a pipe running across the front of the engine which is part of the secondary air system, it's about 20mm in diameter. Under this pipe and attached to it is another pipe of approx 4mm diameter. I'm guessing it's some kind of balance pipe between the two air valves. This pipe is prone to corrode badly and if it starts to leak air through a pin hole all sorts of problems will occur. Or so I've been told. Well the pipe on my car was badly corroded, so much so that it snapped while I was removing it. I've now re made the pipe in cunifer brake pipe and brazed it back in place. It would seem that I caught it just in time before it fell apart and ruined my summer fun. I'll post a picture of this pipe as well as the new bumper support bracket that I've made later.

Hi all, my fan belt has snapped. Is this the same part as the aux belt? Thanks in anticipation, neil

It’s not a fan belt Neil, as your fans are powered by two stage electric motors....
...but it drives your power steering pump, and alternator....
Easy enough to replace. It should be done every four years - ideally before it snaps and leaves you stranded...!

We have a noise from the Spyder at tickover which sounds very like the aux tensioner and seems to come from that area and not either of the cam covers. It might be coming from the alternator of course but I plan to change belt and tensioner while investigating the alternator. Any other things to check?

AC too. Thinking about it in the wee hours I will load the alternator (lights etc) and then the AC and see what if anything changes.

So now the belt tightening pulley has a chunk out of it and I suspect the belt popped off and ultimately snapped. Is this belt tensioner the same as on a qp 2005? It’s the pulley with the ribs in it. Thanks again, neil
