4200 - anyone know how the drain holes connect at the back of the bulkhead?

I've got water in the driver's footwell. I have pulled the carpet back and the a/c drain is fine and on testing it appears that the problem is the drain holes at the top of the bonnet nearest the outside of the car. There are loads of them in the area where the wiper arm goes into the bulkhead. The water is coming out of the box metal work on the side of the car, just in front of the driver's door and bonnet release handle.

I've had a good look round and cannot see the drain pipe. I can only assume that it is blocked or disconnected/dis-lodged in some way. Is it a case of removing the driver's wheel and wheel arch liner to get to it? Help!

Still my bet that the pollen filter compartment is blocked , worth the trouble to remove and clean out all drain ways

Thanks. I thought that at first but it was replaced at service time two weeks ago. Anyway, is the pollen filter in the middle of the bulkhead? Reason I ask is if I pour the water carefully into the drain holes under the wiper arm entry to the bulkhead (ie at the car's edge) it comes out in the footwell. Is this not too far away from the pollen filter?

Anyone help me with this? I am pouring small amounts of water at the driver's edge of the scuttle cover in front of the windscreen and it is coming down into the driver's footwell. This is a long way from the pollen filter and is not connected to anything with the windscreen or its surround itself. Cheers.

Hi Bigbob, If you bear with me until Friday, I'll take the scuttle cover off mine and do the same, maybe I can at least figure out where it should drain. It shouldn't be the pollen filter, as this is completely sealed from above. When water got into my pollen filter, it's got there from the main fan housing, which is covered by a grill. Leaves settle on the grill (suction effect) and then get drawn through the fan and into the piping where they collect and trap moisture, so this doesn't seem like the same thing as you're having, and Goatherder possibly as well? I wonder whether this is a rust spot? Should drain to ground, but perhaps a rust hole has developed letting the water through the bulk-head? Hmmm.

Well this has been fixed. I have a really good body/paint shop locally and they have dealt with it.

The drain holes at the edge of the scuttle cover in front of the A Pillar looked clear but there was crud in them further down, I guess, from years of small stuff getting in. The holes are small so you would not expect much to get down but it obviously accumulates over time and then blocks.

At this time of year it is worth while keeping an eye on it but clearing leaves out might not be enough if small bits if nature are getting in and previous owners have not been too careful.

Thanks for everyones help.
