I've heard a similar thing but I think it depends on how. If it were due to a speed bump or hyrdo locking through a deep puddle of water it is possible. Don't think general mechanical failure will achieve the same result though.

Mates wife drove her BMW Maxi through a puddle and hydro locked the engine, insurance company coughed and replaced without any issue. Not sure aboiut mechanical failure like this though

So maybe slightly right, but mostly rubbish then.
I’d you have fully approved service history I’d still be fighting a case though, see where I got with it.

Are those titanium? They do look more like soft alu, completely chewed up.

Yep spun a big end shell that has. I did it on our track car after a forged rebuild, I knew I should have taken it easy. That's what you get when you rev and rag a car from cold.

I wonder if he has got away with a new crank and conrod/s or if it has put a hole in the block?

There are two pistons, two rods and one big end cap. I suspect the other one popped out for some fresh air!

Yep saw that, if it's spun the shell then the crank is probably scored pretty bad and clearly the pistons are bye bye. Oversized bearings ? :D

Silly question but what’s the point of stripping it?

Surely that engine is “lunched” and a new one is required.....

Root cause no doubt and seeing where the repair needs to start.
If my mates Porsche engine going pop is anything to go by (he suffered from that crank bearing issue or whatever it is). Then they stripped right back to see what ‘donor’ parts would be kept for a rebuild. Turns out there wasn’t a lot!

Plus its always too tempting not to have a nose hey Marios ;)

You should use that last shot as the front of your Xmas cards with some sort of slogan...when it all goes wrong, we are here to help...or words to that effect.

**** me - that's about as bad a mess as I have seen of a non race engine.

Any idea what caused the failure of the conrod bolt?
