Hi all,

well, I've been shopping around for a GT and have noticed the 4.2 grey one on autotrader for 32k with 44k miles which I'm interested in seeing as I think its very good value especially as it was on at 36k before Xmas but, I've come across what I think could be a another bargain....

A 2009 GTS MC Shift, 31k miles, maserati warranty till Dec 2013, black on black, full spec, serviced last month and has had 4 new tyres, new brakes all round, new clutch and special treatment / polish? It looks great in the pictures and I can get it for 44k. Miles is a little on the high side and its from a private seller.

what do you think? Value wise do the MC shift's go for more than the 4.7 auto's? They seem rarer on the market. how often does the clutch need replacing on these models and is the running costs drastically more than the standard 4.2?

I'll be using it 3/4 times a week in mixed motorway and city traffic which concerns me with the shift as some people have said they feel its not suitable as a dd..

I'm also considering the reseal value of both cars, seems to be lots of 4.2s compared to the Mc shifts

many thanks in advance..

Noticed the grey one at 32k and did start a thread on it a few days ago.....For me that car is great value if in great condition.........well worth a look....Its been for sale for a while and started of at 37k so the owner has dropped the price since around last Septemberish...

Original thread...

The black GTS sounds the cheapest price you could get one currently so again worth a look.............Looking at the classifieds itr seems that the MC Shift does sell for more than the Auto's but I know a few traders will say different but just looking whats for sale and proces on windows then MC's are worth more.....The Auto is appealing to a wider audience where as the MC is a sharper drive and aimed at someone who may wants a sportier car.....

I think you need to drive both and see which one suits.....On resale value...who can tell.......There are a lot of 4.2's that are in the 30k's that have been up for sale for ages and show no sign of shifting so you would say that prices should come down but a 4.2 at 30 to 35k is a lot of car for the money......Lets face it they still look like an 80k car where as the Gransport/4200's look like 20k/30k cars............You will probably loose more on a 4.7 as they have further to fall than a 4.2......

Hi Immers.

The MC is just fine as a DD (IMO). Sweet as a nut, honestly. The auto's pretty pointless so only ever drive in manual but it's effortless. Sport mode brings the whole thing to life: sharpens up throttle response, handling, opens the exhaust valves, speeds up gear changes - complete transformation and the sound is hopelessly addictive. Give it a test drive and see what you think. And try not to grin.

Cheers,
Adam
