3200GT turbo's ?

everyone Just a quick question. I've recently purchased a 3200gt, and was wondering whether the turbo's are working correctly. I've read that they should be very noticeable when they kick in, but to be honest I can't feel them kick in. There seems to be one constant acceleration, which is of course very quick, but I don't feel the turbo. Is this normal ? Might be worth mentioning, the engine management light is on and supposedly needs knock sensor changing, would that make a difference to the performance?

You should notice the difference when the power comes in between 2,500 and 3,000 rpm. If you have a knock sensor problem it would probably retard the ignition which would reduce power but a check engine lights could indicate any number of problems. You need to get it diagnosed and sorted, if you bought it from a garage take it back to them, if you bought privately then its down to you and you will need to either take it to a good indie try to sort it yourself.

Check the actuator arms have not seized, they do this a lot. Also check over the hose system inc the small vacuum lines.

The actuators are vacuum actuated.

Hi Steve,

You should notice the turbo kick in. If yours is an auto and you have it in sport it will kick down the instant you touch the accelerator and straight into the turbo power band. From there it will be rapid but smooth delivery with no high rpm kick as such.

It sounds like a trip to your local specialist might be in order. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone, probably the easiest step is to compare it with another one, if it hangs back then that says it all.
Kind regards

As said, I would get to the bottom of the CEL first.....and yes, when the twins kick in, you should NOTICE it lol

I would also suspect the Knock Sensors.
I changed quite some parts on mine but only the change of the pinging Sensores made my turbos coming back to life and deleting the cel.
It’s a rather cheap fix but a sensitive job.
Additionally I sealed my new sensors because probably water in the engines-V killed my old sensors.

Well I've put in new sensors and wow, what a difference. I would say the old broken sensors had put it in limp mode, there is a huge difference, now I can feel the power difference. Took five hrs work changing them but definately worth it.

Great job sir, another happy forum member! now you can enjoy the 3200 as it should be - mad as a bag of frogs.

Well done for sorting your car out! I am sure you can now feel when the turbos kick in...it should feel like it is ready to take off especially when you do full throttle on Sport mode around 3500rpm
