Yes, the AC has a quicker rack. Thanks both, Eurospares list two; standard and race so I guess race is the AC one.
I know a place in Brum that refurbs racks, might pop in after Christmas and ask.
Thanks, for the link George
Looks like it's worn, can't work out how to embed a video but link here:

Man alive, how many miles does that have on it? Not so much worn but looks disconnected , hope you find a sensible and palletable solution.
Oh, not a lot of miles really. Mine had 84k and was just leaking on the offside. No play though.25,000
And don't forget the later 2001 cars have the quicker AC type rack fitted as standard
So if your doing a refurb it makes sense to do it on a later rack!
Dave
Mine is a 2001 car, it’s got the visible updates in the engine bay. Does this means it’s got the AC rack?
Do you know how many turns lock to lock the two types are?
Shop around. I found sometimes the Specialists were more expensive than the Dealers. I got a lot of parts cheaper at the dealers, and they seemed to have some parts for the AC while standard 3200 ones would be out of stock. Thanks Dave, looking at Eurospares it had to be the expensive one. Really, really p ed off with this car now.

We all get pee'd off once in a while , but hey they're only nuts and bolts, there's nothing satanic about them , it just gets a bit weary when it's one thing after another, I'm going through that now, not mechanical just cosmetic, but it's really doing my biscuit tin in.
Just sell it and buy Porsche then.... and start all over againIt’s the 3rd car in a row that I’ve constantly had to fix. After the last two I said I’d not do it again. That’s why I bought this one, muppet move!
