Depends. Is it leaking or worn rack and pinion. Seals can be replaced.

Worn racks are not common.

It might be worth contacting the company that I think has the correct track rod ends. They are out of stock just now, but no ham in asking,

Mine was leaking, and had the seals replaced I believe. The 3200 AC rack is different to standard. I think Graypauls supplied them.

Having replaced both track rod ends and the arms themselves I still had movement in the rack which was basically worn after 97,000 miles. Fortunately a low mileage AC rack came up on eBay so swapped my new arms and ends onto the AC rack.
I know it doesn’t answer your question about refurb but above is route I adopted.
I’m sure there was a thread where someone found a company in France that could provide refurbished racks or new ones at lower cost.

Thanks both, Eurospares list two; standard and race so I guess race is the AC one.

I know a place in Brum that refurbs racks, might pop in after Christmas and ask.

And don't forget the later 2001 cars have the quicker AC type rack fitted as standard

So if your doing a refurb it makes sense to do it on a later rack!

Mine is a 2001 car, it’s got the visible updates in the engine bay. Does this means it’s got the AC rack?

Do you know how many turns lock to lock the two types are?

Yes, you'll have the later type, not sure regarding the ratios though

Shop around. I found sometimes the Specialists were more expensive than the Dealers. I got a lot of parts cheaper at the dealers, and they seemed to have some parts for the AC while standard 3200 ones would be out of stock.

We all get pee'd off once in a while , but hey they're only nuts and bolts, there's nothing satanic about them , it just gets a bit weary when it's one thing after another, I'm going through that now, not mechanical just cosmetic, but it's really doing my biscuit tin in.

It’s the 3rd car in a row that I’ve constantly had to fix. After the last two I said I’d not do it again. That’s why I bought this one, muppet move!

Just sell it and buy Porsche then.... and start all over again

Porsche's are two a penny, and they all look the same!

Masers on the other hand are special, especially rare old 3200's:)

If your not up for it...
