3200GT Key / transponder

I have a spare black key for the 3200 which is missing the imobilser transponder (I assume one of the previous owners lost it). The button disarm and unlocks the car, the key obviously fits the locks but will not start the car. Is it possible to get a new transponder? I have seen them available for Flats and they look to be the same size and shape but assume that if they can be used, some sort of programming would be required?

No big issue as it is an extra spare but would be nice if I could get it to work.

I think someone did find a supplier of the chips for a 4200. If you bought them in batches of about 5000. You'd still need to get it coded to the car (assuming similarities to the 4200 system)

I suspect you'd be better to try and buy an second hand key and either pop the transponder out of that for your old key or swap the internals of yours into the new one.

Then get the new transponder coded to the car.....

You might also try Timpsons and see what they say. I remember Mrs C's GTV was a similar vintage and they could clone hers.

you might need a dealer for this? I got spare keys from Maserati and had a small company (alas not around any more) reprogram the immobiliser to the new keys. I must confess I didnt pay enough attention to the process but it clearly can be done.

The red key as I understand it has a special location in the immobiliser "recognised key list" that allows you to get the car to accept a new key, and some other functions. I think all of this is a bit of a myth because the place that programmed my new keys also programmed the immobiliser with a new red key, since my car had no red key so it was all fixable. The only thing i could not get was a new key, and I got these blank new keys from the dealer. Sadly i am not aware of a company currently in business that is offering this sort of programming, but there must be someone out there.

I thought the red key allowed you to programme a new blank key in the car rather than having to take the new blank somewhere to be done for you with a computer?

Something like insert red key turn to 1 then turn off and remove. Insert new blank turn to 1 then turn off and remove. New blank is now programmed. Could be completely wrong.

The previous owner of my Y2000 3200GT had new keys made by Silca. They are better than the originals because the chip cannot be detached. Lots of hitech coding companies could do this small job.

Thanks for the help on this!

So the transponders I bought arrived as did the programer / reader that I took a chance on. This morning I had a go at copying , programming the new transponder. In all honesty I wasnt really expecting it to work, however it seems I now have another working key! So if anyone else is missing a transponder i hopefully should be able to help.

Cheers

Hi, I too have a similar situation with my 4200 spyder. I need additional 2 clones of my current key transponder. I have one original key which needs repair and a chip and a already cut key which too needs a chip.
