3200gt heater fan not working

Hi.

The fan controls/fan have stopped working in my 3200.

The econ and recirc buttons don't light up when pressed, and the fan speed dial doesn't do anything.

The heat control appears to be working as hot or cold air is radiating out of the vents, but I can't adjust the fan speed.

Is this a common issue? Could it be a fuse or loose plug, and if so where are the fuses for it? (also interior lights and clock backlight don't work, but they didn't work before the fans stopped working).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try fuse under passenger footwear I think it's no 20. If that doesn't work the fuse holder has melted. Same as Alfa 166 replaced last year myself

I would try the fuses first its always a place to start. Sadly the air conditioning controller is quite complicated and its possible thats faulty. since the AC and recirc lights are not working that would suggest its not just the fan or the Fan motor. if you switch on the ignition and hold the AC and recirc buttons down at the same time the controller will do a self test, you could see if ti responds at all?

The ac hasn't worked since I got it, it blows but not cold. I haven't got round to looking into why. Hoping a re-gas might fix it but I know the compressors and controllers are a common fault with these. I'm pretty sure the buttons used to light up though but they don't now.

The fans and heat have always been fine so I can live with that, but a lack of heat/demist is a problem!

I'm hoping it's a fuse, and think it's reasonably likely as they stopped working after I had air ride fitted, so things have been moved around and wiring installed etc which might have upset something.

I didn't know there was a fuse box in the footwell, hopefully when I find that I'll find the problem! Will be looking into it tomorrow so fingers crossed!

I don't have a manual for the car, and found many confusing/conflicting fuse diagrams in searches online! Don't suppose anyone happens to have one they know is right?? (I have the workshop manual, just no users handbook) it's a rhd 2002 manual car if that makes any difference.

there is a fuse for the air conditioning unit in the collection under the foot well. See attached

I have the later version of yours, the GranSport, and had my fan worked sometimes then not. I could always tell how the day would be at start up.
If the fan kicked in we were good, if not then we faced an annoying trip.
The heat can always be pushed in by air flow when travelling at speed as the water heater is always receiving water. The vent flap just blocks it entering so air cond can enter the cabin.
I replaced my dash controls firstly, but that didn't solve the problem. They are the same controls as yours.
After you check your fuses under the passenger carpet access, I suggest peeling back the carpet in the passenger footwell particularly near the door vertical. ie opposite side of the footwell from the central tunnel. Look for the wiring coming out of the fan and trace to the connector high up near where the lower end of the dash meets the side wall. Check these connections.
If that doesn't fix it, then I believe it will be your whole dash out to replace the fan like I did. I took the dash out as my water heater was leaking and replaced the fan at the same time. Problems solved.
Warning the connector plastic tube between the fan and the heater box has some hard to get to screws at the rear. Small hands and swearing required!

Will do. Thanks. :) hopefully it will be nice and simple...

Before I start taking things apart properly, whereabouts is the fuse box? I had a quick look but couldn't see anything that screamed fuse box at me... But I only got as far as pulling the carpet back from under the dash, is it further back towards the seat?

That's awesome. Thank you both!
Hopefully be able to find a few other bits that aren't working while I'm in there. Fogs, interior lights, etc etc...
I'll report back tomorrow with the results.

Well I think I've found the problem.

Replaced it and they work fine, but the holder is melted too so I think I'll be looking at replacing the fuse box too ASAP.

Slightly concerned why it would go quite so spectacularly, so I'll be driving with the footplate off for a few days in case it decides to actually catch fire next time!

Common problem. Fuse get hot doesn't blow melts holder. Replaced mine with Alfa166 fuse box as the same. 35 amp fuse doesn't get hot now.

New fuse box in. All seems to be working fine.

Also found the reverse light fuse was blown and blew a new one as soon as I turned them on.

Quick investigation revealed a wire by the bulb trapped and frayed by one of the light unit mounting bolts. Tucked it out of the way and wrapped it back up with some heatshrink and I finally have reversing lights!

Now I just need to figure out why none of the interior lights work except the dash lights... No other blown fuses in any of the 4 boxes.
