Someone in the past has clobbered it, jugging by the yellow paint on a speed bump, so that part of the crossmember was sticking through the tray.

There’s a lip on my garage. It’s caught the sticking out bit of the crossmember bent it backwards and smashed the undertray. The annoying thing is it’s been in and out of the garage countless times.
That's unlucky, but hopefully easily and cheaply repaired. Have you tried Soprano Stu for the undeetry, I'd be surprised if he didn't have one. On ebay or 07860446039. He has one, as I phoned home by mistake while looking up his number! Stuart Lockley on the above number.

Thanks Allan. I tried David Askew and couldn’t see one on Stuart’s eBay so have already ordered a new one. Just my luck he’s actually got one.

Thanks again

Tim.

Changed the plugs, fuel filter and air filters, put all 8 screws in, isn’t that difficult and it was a main dealer that changed the air filters last.

Reshaped and painted the crossmember, just waiting for it to dry.

Can’t get the fuel filter to seal, tried 3 copper washers still won’t seal. Once I get everything working properly I’m selling.

Don’t get sad, my GS was similar despite a full service history from specialists.

Cars of this age will always be rolling restorations if you want it perfect, my GS certainly has been but then I didn’t pay top dollar from a dealer, mine was bought privately a fair few K under dealer prices.

Soon be summer where all this upheaval can be forgotten!

When was it last serviced? those air filters look like they are original. While l can understand your frustration on e these few problems are sorted you will have a great car.

Last had an oil service last year but prior to that it's been serviced every year I think, pretty much all at main dealers. That's not what's peeing me off, its that nothing goes right, every time I fix something it goes to sh1t, I've worked on hundreds of cars and this is the only one that's been so stupidly unlucky, well maybe the Audi I took both ends off but that was me being a pratt.

Went and got another filter, seems ok now, must have been something wrong with the mating surface on the filter, for future reference it's the same as a 1992 Jaguar XJ40 4.0 litre.

When you see air filters like that you wonder what they do for the money. When l first took the pollen filter out of my 3200 it was totally clogged up and that was after supposedly being changes 5000miles before by a MD.

I hope that when you get the plugs and filters fitted it will all run smooth.

I can tell you what they don’t do for the money, that’s put all the screws back in the air filter housings!

Plugs and filters are in and it runs. Can’t drive it until I’ve got a new undertray as the front end will flap around.

Sleep on it. You deserve the fruits of your labour. I’m looking at the sun out of my window and know the good part is coming soon.

I remember my 3200 filters after a supposed full dealer service - ha ha ha. Always DIY nowadays unless SD3 required due to no confidence in any garages

Is the section on undertray that is missing in the photo in one piece and can it not be repaired with fibre glass resin.

Problem is most buyers want a dealer service history even if it means bugger all.

That bit would but it’s also ripped all the mounting holes and I don’t think they’d hold up so but the bullet and ordered a new one.
