Thanks Dave.

I think the stutter is most noticeable at a little above 2000rpm. Which makes think it’s not turbo related??
Have you changed the spark plugs lately, every 18K

I remember when I first bought my 3200 the original set were still in there after11 years:cool: as it hadn't done the miles!

Not yet. It’s on my list of things to do. They’ve obviously been in there a while, don’t look fouled though.

Air filters are rusty but should have some new ones by the weekend.

From past experience it wouldn’t surprise me if the fuel filter is the one it left Bologna with.

No loss of boost on mine, could be pop off valves slow to close after reapplying throttle, but also should not cough or splutter when putting your foot down something not quite right but difficult to diagnose. I always use 98 octane fuel , also worth checking the plugs sometimes the oil sealing rings leak around the plugs on the cam covers causing missing.

hmm, i have to check pop-of valves on mine... any advice on aftermarket pop-offs or is original the best?

How can you check the pop off valves are functioning correctly?
I not sure, l assume that if you apply a vacuum to them you can perhaps here them switch over. if there is a problem with them it could also be that one is not opening when you back off and then the turbo will tend to stall meaning they have to spool up again when you put your foot down. Perhaps you can tell on an SD 2 tester perhaps one of our forum sponsors can help.

Can’t reproduce the lack of power when changing gear so my only guess is that maybe the traction control kicked in without me noticing.

Slight stutter still present, will see what happens when I change the plugs and air filters.

usually on these plastic body by-passes made by Bosch, rubber diaphragm breaks and valve starts to leak. You can check it by sucking vacuum on the small hose. When you stop vacuum you can hear valve closing.

I can feel both valves moving when sucked and they hold a vacuum.

The plugs that are in there are PMR7A so a different temp to what's specified.

And the fuel filter was made 18 years ago.

traction control at this time of year will kick in pretty regular, depending on what tyres you have, it might be working quite hard

Bits arrived to give it some TLC

And it promptly destroys the undertray on the way into the garage. FFS I hate this car.

Poor sod.

Hope you can find a cheap replacement from a breakers yard.

Cheers.

Nope. No one has got one. £273 for a new one from Maserati. Along with £660 for a new race helmet as mine is out of date and £1000 for a crankshaft it’s been an expensive week.

And it’s bent the crossmember that holds the radiators so currently doing some blacksmithing on that.

Why did it fall off, assume it twisted and got stuck under a wheel?

Someone in the past has clobbered it, jugging by the yellow paint on a speed bump, so that part of the crossmember was sticking through the tray.

There’s a lip on my garage. It’s caught the sticking out bit of the crossmember bent it backwards and smashed the undertray. The annoying thing is it’s been in and out of the garage countless times.
