Thanks once again.

I discovered a small vacuum pipe, which is not connected at one end. 68073 Can any of you help me with where the loose end should be connected? I have attached a photo. I have blanked the pipe off, but it's made no difference.

When the engine is running, it doesn't sound smooth, so I'm now wondering whether there's now a misfire on 1 cylinder, causing the engine ECU to throw up a fault and set the car into limp mode.

I'll investigate that next.

The car doesn't have an ODBC connector, so what's the best way to interrogate the fault codes?

Regards

That doesn't connect to anything, it's usually just tucked under the tb cover.

The throttle body is the sole means of idle control (unlike almost every other throttle by wire that have a separate idle circuit) if that’s not working properly it’ll never run smooth. I’d get that functioning and clear the codes before you worry about plugs or the like.

At this stage I think you need to read the codes.

I used this thread and have UNIDIAG up and running. It really does save money on expensive diagnosis at a garage.

As others have said, I expect your throttle body is toast.... especially as it appears someone has screwed with it in the past. I'd do this:

  • Get unidiag set up
  • Read codes
  • If throttle body codes keep appearing after being reset, and throttle problem does not get better, send the Throttle body to the Maserati Shed for repair (http://www.maseratished.co.uk/ ). Mike is a good guy and will give you his honest opinion. However, if the Throttle body has been messed with too much, it might be beyond repair :-(
  • You might need to buy a second hand throttle body, these are about £800 unfortunately.

Just catching up with this thread. Just before Christmas I had not too dissimilar symptoms - car would fire up no problem but with erratic idle around 1200 revs but even more frustratingly found it would only rev to about 1500 Revs. CEL light on. Clearly a signal was getting to the throttle body but the TB wasn't reacting correctly. I swapped over to my spare Pedal Pot but this made no difference to teh symptoms so eliminated the Pedal pot as likely cause and hence focused on the TB. To cut a long story short I did what others have suggested and sent to Mike at Maserati shed as he had previously undertaken contact less conversion. After bench testing he established that the ECU integrated within the throttle body itself had fried itself. Unfortunately this ECU cant be repaired currently and so I ended up securing a replacement TB and Mike did the contact less conversion. All bolted up and problem solved.

Thanks,

All of the connections within my throttle body are good, but the TB doesn't cycle when the ignition is switched on.

I think that I'll get another throttle body. If anyone has one, please let me know. My direct email is duncanRclarke@gmail.com.
