3200 Flywheel Skim?

My 3200 is currently having clutch replaced. Having sourced clutch parts from across Europe, my mechanic has advised that flywheel is showing signs of high spots. I believe new flywheels may not now be available and was wondering if anyone has had theirs skimmed? What my Mechanic is trying to establish is if anyone knows the tolerance (how much can be removed) but still maintain sufficient tolerances?

The 3200 is a bit of an old school engine, so I don't see why not.

Sounds like a Mike Roberts question if I am honest.

It can be done but don't know the tolerances as mine was done through McGrath's a few years back. Sure either they or Mike would be able to advise.

Thanks - I will try and speak to McGrath's tomorrow. I'm having to go this route as no new or second hand manual flywheels available amongst normal sources unless anyone knows differently?

There no problem, just make sure you take the least amount of metal off "both faces" not just the drive plate face but mounting face too!

Otherwise the clutch won't work correctly... you could knock one up on a lathe to original spec once you've done the drawing.. You could even have a light weight alloy version!

Thanks Dave - I will advise guys doing the skim _ I suspect thay would have known about both faces but I will certainly advise them.

Interesting idea about developing own flywheels - I suspect that it wont be too long before other 3200's are having to go this route.

Just to answer my original question - yes the 3200 flywheel can be skimmed - in my case 6thou to remove the high spots.
