3200 CEL but no limp mode

My 3200GT has CEL on constantly but is not in limp mode so runs fine. Battery reset, throttle reset has not cleared it. I will be taking it for a SD2 diagnosis but wondered if anyone here had experienced similar or if anyone had any suggestions for things to check? I guess its a sensor somewhere but think its strange its not in limp mode?

It could be something simple but from experience, it will most likely be down to one of 2 items, throttle body or lambda sensors.

SD2 will sort it for you, pinkies crossed its nothing too expensive.

Just had contactless throttle body done by Boomerang in Holland so don't think its that. In fact I'm pretty sure its not that as it had the same problem before I sent it away, the fix has cured the dreaded complete loss of throttle & the throttle with a life of its own!

I had a bad pingingsensor once, CEL but engine running fine, though not as fast as usual.
The intake tempsensor is known to make trouble, you could measure its resistance at a given temp and check in the manual for the correct value.
And of course, the lambda sensor could cause that.

Again, your ETM was not only tested after mod, but also ON a 3200GTA with no CEL and perfect behaviour.
I think you really have to diagnose with SD2, because there are to many possible faillures causing CEL.
Good luck!

See if your brake lights work. If the switch fails or becomes intermittent as mine did recently you get e CEL. The switch is around £10 from Emblem, plus fitting if required, and SD2/3 reset.

To add to Phil H's point above, when I first got my 3200 it seemed to have a couple of CELs, all error codes pointed to the brake light switch which was changed. When the CEL happened again it was considered, i.e. gently pointed out by the main dealer that it could be my driving style of not fully applying the brakes but moving the pedal enough so that the system thought there was a fault and sending the CEL. Now I'm much firmer on the brakes and have not had one since. If you have an OBDII reader it was always showing as P1665.

As I understand it there are different levels of CEL i.e. CEL but no noticable difference, CEL with throttle restriction and CEL with bugger all throttle. Throttle pot and brake issues throw highest level restriction for obvious reasons. The others are triggered by the myriad of other sensors that aren't immediately engine or life threatening! SD2 again! how i wish there was a way round it.
