Having spent 3 nights in Modena, a few observations.

1. Jeez it’s a petrolhead nirvana. The Ferrari Museum’s were excellent as ever, Lamborghini, should try harder and the Pagani tour always brilliant

2. Maserati- nothing open. Factory, showroom or the Umberto Pannini museum …. They need to up their game

3. Only saw two other Maserati’s in Modena - a blue Levante Modena and, wait for it, a cool as f123 purple Ghibli 2 being driven by a grey haired old women……I actually clapped as I was walking - she owned that road

3. R&D still goes on as I saw a disguised Urus with a wrapped and new front end and the Ferrari Amalfi test car out an about.

4. Had lunch at the Montana…..and by chance so were Fred Vasseur and Piero Ferrari (neither arrived in a Ferrari)

5. The GranTurismo attracted a lot of interest - more than I expected - for them to be uncommon is one thing….but in Modena was a surprise

6. The roads around Modena are as bad as the U.K. so no wonder Ferrari and Maserati both have good suspension set ups for our roads.

Off to Verona tomorrow to pick up a mate and then skiing in the Italian Alps…..Remember life is hard…..and then you die

Ciao

Nice info. Sticked to 'nothing open'

Timely thread for me give I have done something either genius or stupid- any recommendations for car friendly hotels either on the way down or in and around Modena?
I’m planing to drive down with a mate- Leeds- Modena ideally in 2 days, a couple of days relaxing and then the half marathon on the Sunday before making a break for the eurotunnel, getting back for Monday pm.

If you want cheap - the B&B hotel in Modena has free parking or underground parking for 10e a night. The hotel is fine, dodgy breakfast and 15min walk from the Griffin…but this is pretty basic

You can certainly make it to Modena in 2 days. I did last summer, from Dorset to Nancy (via the tunnel) on day 1, and then on to Modena on day 2, arriving at about 7 in the evening.
We stayed in the cheap but perfectly okay Hotel Donatello in Modena, with both above ground and underground parking options. It has no restaurant, but it’s only a short taxi into the centre of town (where I’d recommend Ristorante Uva D’Oro).
Another option we used (better quality) is the Persicos Hotel, a bit out side of Modena - it’s the hotel Lamborghini use, as it’s close to Sant Agata. It also has above ground and underground parking.
Or there’s the Ferrari themed hotel in Maranello, as you are bound to end up visiting some of the Ferrari tourist options at some point.
