Hi all,

Week 2 of my renewed push to try and get some more weight off before Christmas. My plan is weekly weigh ins, no booze for at least October (I may extend to November) and at least 30 mins of heart rate elevating exercise every day...

1st October - 89.0kg @28% body fat
3rd October - 87.4kg @ 26.5% body fat
10th October 86.2kg @ 26.0% body fat

Goal for this week is to introduce at least one weights session so that I can try to maintain the same muscle mass and only lose fat...
Well Done and the GS will go faster too.

Having decided that I was drinking FAR too much, and that I really needed to do something about it, I’m on day 33 of my 90 day alcohol-free challenge. I’ll be happy with 60 days, but will try to make 90.

BP on day 1 was 141/95; today it’s 123/79
Weight on day 1 was 83.3 kg; today it’s 81.2 kg.
Day 40 alcohol-free!

I had a wobble on Thursday but managed to stay off the gin ...

Weight last weekend was 81.2; today it’s 80.8
BP remains significantly lowered at 121/83

Overall, I’m really happy with the changes I’m seeing both physically and mentally.

If anybody is thinking about giving it a go, I’d recommend oneyearnobeer.com for their challenges (and support), and “This Naked Mind” by Annie Grace is a really good read.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

I’m a bit disappointed by today’s weigh-in, but it is what it is. I always knew the rate of weight loss would slow, and I suspect there’s been a bit too much grazing on cake and such things...

However, the exercise is going well, my belly is flattening, and my chins (yes, plural) are reducing

1st October - 89.0kg @28% body fat
3rd October - 87.4kg @ 26.5% body fat
10th October - 86.2kg @ 26.0% body fat
17th October - 86.0kg @ 26.0% body fat

I’m definitely thinking of extending my dry period to include November as well, and am going to try to get close to 82.5kg (<13 stone) before the end of the year. That would mean I finished 2020 13 kgs (2stone) lighter than I started it, and given how s.hitty a year it’s been that would be a result.

It would also give me a decent shot at getting to under 80kg (12.5 stone) before I reach the big 50...

Don’t get disheartened, Jw that’s a great effort.
Remember it’s an input/output lifestyle change-Over time.
Keep up the small adjustments to your eating/drinking likes and burn it off with a little more exercise.
You’ll get to your goal

Well done JonW!

I think there must be something in the air this week as, despite another 7 days of alcohol abstinence, my weight has gone UP from 80.8 to 81.4! I have no excuses as I know that I’ve raided the fridge every day, and last night’s takeaway won’t have helped.

It’s great that you’re seeing a change in your body shape, and the weight loss is probably slowing as you’re building (heavier) muscle mass and transforming your body build.

Keep it up!

Seven days off is great, Wattie. I've found that getting past day 2, and then day 5, is the hardest, then it becomes much much easier. Are you trying for longer?

Sounds ridiculous but last weekend the Mrs and I didn’t drink.
Ashamed to say that probably the first weekend in a decade that’s happened,

Until today, I was 7 days (even
Bought some alcohol free beers) but it’s our anniversary, wifes, first daughter and my youngests birthday in the next 5 days.
So I’ll have a couple.

That said, I’m being reasonably sensible and preparing For my heart op next month so not going nuts.

To all those disillusioned with their fitness progress, don’t be. I’ve been thrown a couple of curve balls recently and I’m 99-% sure I’ll get thru them because of my fitness regime over the years
Being as fit as u can be gives u a fighting chance.

Unless you have a large glass of water!

Boxers can loose up to 30 lbs in 48 hours prior to a weigh-in, through shredding by sweating and fasting. But it’s not recommended, not permanent (obvs) and won’t make you feel good.

My update is the I’ve just broken the 16st barrier for the first time in many years, so I’m still well on target for my goal of finishing the year a stone lighter than I started. Current loss is 1st 5lbs.

Target 2 is to repeat Target 1 next year.

Ironman U.K. in 2011, temperatures were close to 30c and I lost 1.5 stone in 12 hours.

Is paying for a personal trainer cheating or within the rules?

Been having PT sessions at a body building gym since August as I was not gaining weight but not losing either. Once a week for 30 mins per session with barely any breaks

I have managed to shift roughly 3 kilos from 81.7kg in mid August to 78.9kg currently and my strength has increased exponentially particularly my legs which were really weak initially now I'm squat pressing 80kg with ease

Progress continues to be slow... but it’s still progress!

1st October - 89.0kg @28% body fat
3rd October - 87.4kg @ 26.5% body fat
10th October - 86.2kg @ 26.0% body fat
17th October - 86.0kg @ 26.0% body fat
24th October - 85.5kg @ 25.8% body fat

The positive way of looking at this is that overall, this means that I’ve lost 3.5kg (7.7lbs) in just over 3 weeks , which is broadly in line with the recommended healthy weight loss rate. Also, according to my scales, this 3.5kg weight loss is mainly fat, as my lean mass has only reduced by 0.5kg (64kg —> 63.4kg)…

The less positive is that in the last two weeks I’ve only lost 0.7kg.... :sad3:

Day 54 off the booze! 6 more days until I reach my first target of 60 days, with the ultimate aim of 90 days (but anything over 60 is a bonus).

I've reclaimed a bit of the weight I'd put back on at the last check-in (I'm back down to 81.0kg from 81.4kg), and my BP is the lowest yet at 110/77 (down from 141/95 on day one). My BP medication has already been halved, and now I'm wondering whether it needs to be halved again!

If I feel I need a drink (which is becoming increasingly rare), I just picture in my mind the dozens of bottles of wine that I've now not drunk laid out in front of me - a "sobering thought" ...
