Belly flopped: 51"
Waist: 44"
Weight: 19st 8lbs

3rd March:
Age: 37
Height: 6'4"
Belly flopped: 45"
Waist: just under 42 1/2"
Weight: 18st 6lbs

9th March:
Age: 37
Height: 6'4"
Belly flopped: 45" - no change

Not sure how this fits with all the rowing experts,
I’m just steadily building up to 30 minutes,up to now had been managing 2:18 ish per 500m, not bad as was on heavy legs after hour cycling yesterday.

Right, 11st 4, so still on target. This week will mostly be a red wine and seafood diet! Let's see how that works, who knows, it could be the next big thing lol.

Good work. It takes wrote a bit too be able to row for long periods. 25spm is slightly high for steady state so slightly more tiring.
You'll get to your 30 mins soon. Have you checked the technique stuff on Concept 2's website?

WTF?!

What red wine goes with seafood FFS?

(Actually I'm kind of curious to know if any red wine does....)

Yep, I’ve rowed quite a bit before, so think my technique is ok, 25 was probably last 90 secs, usually, 22/23, aiming to increase by 5 minutes every 2/3 weeks, last time I rowed for an hour was Bosnia, 94, know one thing, I’m going to get a seat pad......

Well with the broken scales replaced and calibrated, giving myself a week off the diet actually saw me loose another pound so 19st 7lb it is! Back on it this week I think with the exception of Ace on Thursday maybe.

Excellent work.

I really miss being able to use my rowing machine, but hopefully it won’t be long before my shoulder is healed enough for me to be able to get back to some gentle steady state rowing.

In terms of stroke rate, I think it depends quite a bit on build and form. I just checked on my Concept logbook, and my 30mins best workout is at 24 spm. For me this is just about slow enough to be truly aerobic, but I find going slower than this makes it harder to keep to a decent pace.

A great work out, once aerobically fit, is to do 30mins at 20spm (max), and try and get the pace per 500m as low as possible. This forces you to use real leg power in every stroke, and maximise the length of your recovery motion. I’m short, and don’t have loads of power in my legs (think skinny chicken legs rather than Chris Hoy bulging thighs), so I used to find it depressing to watch clips of proper rowers who could easily belt out 1:50-1:55/500s in a session like this, when I would be blowing chunks trying to keep the pace below 2:05.

Thanks for the tips Jon, building up slowly at what I consider manageable and achievable, I’m 5ft 7 ish, 11st10 ish I think, I’ve not got my footie legs anymore but still I think I’m relying on my upper body strength and stroke rate rather than leg power, will give it a go.

Dave, I suspect I do the same. It's easy to 'forget' how useful your legs can be on the forward and back strokes. I also know what you mean about Concept2 ar5e. ******* nasty, business! The standard pad is sod all use. My wife bought me some padded cycling shorts but they don't quite cover the most vulnerable areas.

For my 20 min session today I tried Jon’s advice, kept the stroke rate to. 22 per minute, concentrating on pushing harder through legs, managed a 2:15 average per 500m, so 3 seconds shaved off per 500m... mind I knew about it...

For the last two months I’ve been pretty limited to what exercise I can do, so have been pedalling away like a little hampster on my bike in Zwift...

I’m still alcohol free, and have been trying (with varying degrees of success) to not eat sugary snacks or biscuits.

This was the result of this morning’s weigh-in!

Hope everyone else is progressing as desired...
