It is, it is also very satisfying to get to that milestone even though the last few weeks have been frustrating as the loss has slowed down. Hopefully I'll tip the balance in the next few weeks and see the gains speed up again. Just moving about is easier so I'm willing to do more exercise un-prompted. The loss so far is indeed equal to our smaller cocker spaniel!!!

Outstanding work Newton!

I’ve never picked up a baby sea lion (southern or northern), or a baby moose! (*I know, I need to seriously consider what the **** have I been doing with my life…*).

However, another way of looking at it is that an average 2 year old human weighs 25lbs! Just think how much better for your heart, bones, joints, etc, it would be if you didn’t have to permanently carry a 2 yr old around with you all the time.

No weigh in for me this week as I don’t really want to know how much I’ve put on. I got back on my bike yesterday (literally and figuratively) and will try and have a good week this week and see if I can at least be flat for the two weeks.

Probably for the best. Moose is delicious. I had whale once (don’t hate me, he was already dead) and it tasted fecking dreadful.

Depends on the whale. Beluga whale is quite nice, but sperm whale leaves a funny taste in the mouth.

Anyway, enough of that nonsense.

Once again I have plateaued or maintained the same weight 2 weeks running at 80kg

Next week I'm on my feet all week so we'll see if that makes a difference.

Following that and due to the beginnings of stability in the new business, I may well soon be able to get into a routine of fitness classes and gym.

Always fancied a bit of Krav Maga, so will see if there's anywhere doing it in the bustling metropolis of Carrickmacross

Generally in my experience the weight loss is easy at first and big results are achieved. Then the weight loss begins to slow down and is measured in small parcels. This is when people lose interest as they cannot see a significant gain from their efforts. The last stage is you get somewhere near your target and you have to keep your new lifestyle to maintain your target without slipping back to the bad old ways this too can be difficult. Persistence proves though that your new lifestyle becomes the new norm and your health is the real beneficiary
keep at it lads
(I am still 12st 10/11 lbs and that is my new lifestyle bedded in. I feel fine with it too!)

Dave is right, and this is a fundamental biological activity.

Newton, your body is currently resisting losing fat. Pretty sure I posted the bank analogy previously but the short version is that you need to work with your body and metabolism and no against it. Keep calories consumed lower than calories expended and you will lose weight. Eventually. Make the difference too great and your body will persist in starvation mode, doing everything it can to reduce calorie expenditure and bring things back in balance.

28 lbs in just under 7 weeks is frankly remarkable. That would work out at 4lbs a week or a calorie deficit of 14000(!) per week. In context if you were a normal man doing a normally active day you'd have to have subsisted on 500kcal a day for *seven weeks*.

No not lose heart or get frustrated. Accept that this is the right way to do ig and stick with it.

Wow! So impressed, Newton! That, along with the news that you can safely start some exercise should get things moving steadily.

Am I the only one waiting patiently on this thread for a follow up photo of a chiseled dan showing the fruits of his labour. We need before and after shots!

Sunday morning stats...
2nd January:
Age: 36
Height: 6'4"
Belly flopped: 51"
Waist: 44"
Weight: 19st 8lbs

10th February
Age: 36
Height: 6'4"
Belly flopped: 46.5"
Waist: just under 43"
Weight: 18st 11lbs

17th February:
Age: 36 - no change
Height: 6'4" - no change
Belly flopped: 46" so no change this week.
Waist: just under 43" so also no change. Can anyone help explain what might be going on? The weight continues to go at an average of 2lbs power week, but from where?
Weight: 18st 9lbs - 2lbs this week; I'm calling that... ONE STONE GONE THIS YEAR! (Because the 2nd January weight stat was approximate)

I'm a bit hapPea about this and also how sustainable it feels. I'm somehow still continuing to up the exercise too and I'm loving how fit I feel. Clothes are fitting that haven't for years. I'm dressing better because I feel more pride in my appearance, and that virtuously makes me feel better about how I look. I'm pretty sure I'm the lightest I've been this decade!

Without taking a lot of other measurements, you'll never know but...

Interstitial fat in the abdomen would be a good one to lose. Subcutaneous fat *everywhere* is more likely.

So effectively that layer of fat under your skin has probably got a tiny bit thinner all over. Think about getting 4 packs of butter and smearing it all over. Now when you've calmed down, you'll see that you don't need a massive layer all over to have 2 lbs of fat used up ;)

One of the challenges when you're a big person anyway and losing weight is that you can lose a lot and no bugger notices. Then suddenly it starts going more visibly from the triggers like chin cheeks and face. Of course where we really want to lose if from is in the abdomen. And that's the last to go and the first to come back :(

Thanks for the insight. Actually, I've had several people noticing already and I'm a big guy. What you say about subcutaneous lard would figure as I'm now able to do up my watch strap another notch tighter.

I picked up the little dog before I went out earlier and it really is a motivator to realise I’m now not walking around with that all the time!

I think 2 st is quite a big dog, isn't it? Mrs C's cat is 5.5kg or about 12 lbs. You know you're picking him up. Two of him would be scary. Mostly because he's so stupid but also, in a bag would be
a) Messy
b) Quite a load

;)

Ahh that's a good one. I know when I'm getting porky as my watches (and rings) get snug. Good on you

I’m no normal man!

In all seriousness that is a great bit of information Chris, I’m winning against the food cravings in so much as I had A sandwich (just 2 slices of bread, ham and thinly sliced cheese) today at about 1pm and went to a meeting in Mornington Crescent by walking from Kings Cross. Last year I would probably have had 3 sandwiches at 11am so would have been craving food by the time of the meeting. Instead I walked from the meeting to Russell Square where my foot got too painful and I jumped on a bus the rest of the way to Holborn. The point is I walked past 20-30 shops I could have snacked at but didn’t. After my Holborn meeting I turned down an invite to an Italian with my friends and made it home to a small dinner. I’m probable getting by on 1,200-1,500 calories a day. Last year if I’m brutally honest every day would have been at least 5,000!3607846C-3781-42F5-9943-B75AD4D8EDBC.png
