Well I’ve been given a place in the Prudential Ride London 2019, so I have the incentive of actually doing exercise. As opposed to last year I now have a target time to beat.
Being the competitive chap I am, this means I’ll have to train harder than last year. Which should mean I lose more weight.
And I’ll only have one holiday in the month before it this year! (Le Mans).

Training in earnest will start tomorrow. (As always) :p:p:p:p

Congratulations on getting in. I had the commiserations letter with free bag to soak it up . Put in for the team ride so will see how that goes. Get pedalling and best of wishes with your training.

I’ve been following this thread, but not really thought of investing..I usually hover between 11st 10 and 12.5 stone, currently I’m 12st on the nose, I’ve started using the gym, not done that for 10 years, since it wasn’t free....so I’m presently doing 3-4 40 minute cardio sessions followed by weights, one muscle group, 6 sets over 2 exercises, I haven’t really lost weight but the wife commented I looked leaner,
I’m 51 in Feb, 5ft7 ish, 32” waist, 39” chest!
So I guess all I’m trying to do is get a bit fitter, weight training wise until the cycling season starts, then I’ll have to get a bike box and shift bike to Denmark.

I can loan you my bike box as long as I can have it back by August.

Wowser, how generous, I’ll maybe give you a shout in April then...

No probs, I’ve just stuck it in the attic so only collecting dust, I’ll aim to do the Isle of Man again later in the year so just keeping it for that really. Not an expensive one but does the trick (the bike box company is where I got it from) I’m Essex based if that suits? Failing that my pops borrowed one from a local bike shop in Leicester although I expect they would normally charge to loan as he gets all his bikes and bits from there but I guess mates rates for that at worst. Depends where your based I guess.

78.2 kg again today...so that must be my current weight. which equates to 12 stone 4 lb. For the BMI fascists I should be 12 stone 2 lb. My blood pressure has always been 120 over 80 but my resting heart rate is around 75, possibly a tad high.
I can't be @rsed with gyms, they just seemed pointless to me. Full of poseurs and milfs with make up on. Cycle and rowing machines should be hooked up to the national grid. So I might check out local 5aside football and get that resting heart rate down...or go swimming... Just need to finish this beer...

Well I got my results from the Dr's this evening and I'm very pleased, at age 23 I has a cholesterol level of 5.2 and these results returned a 5.4 which after 30 od years of being obese is a result! no diabetes fear, bloods all good in fact, ECG came back all good and the advise is keep going as I am on the weight loss and bring in the exercise steadily. Fantastic to receive news like that. So mission in the next couple of weeks will be to find a canoe club with Dan and see about some pool time to get back in kayaks for the summer training!

I have a 24hr trace on the ticker in a couple of weeks so they can check it resting and at stress. Hopefully we should hear about getting up to Loughborough Uni soon to bench mark ourselves!

Mate, that's brilliant news! Well done. Very well done. You must be chuffed to bits. Not only that, you've inspired a lot of other people on here to do the same. Well, only one other with the kayaking, but lots with the 'un-fvck your health and fitness' regime. Good work!

It goes both ways folks, I've had to face facts and be brutally honest with myself that this is probably the last age when I can really do something to recover fitness and shift the weight permanently. Being open and honest on here about it gives me nowhere to hide! The 'la folle aventure en kayak' was what it took to put a roadblock ahead of myself sufficiently challenging to motivate me into action. The trepidation, anxiety, fear and magnitude of the task is working fantastically but more than that you guys are driving it forward, I'm absolutely stoked it has developed into a mutual support group with nothing but positive outcomes!

Morning all,

Fantastic news from Newton, and I like the comments about how we are collectively inspiring and hold each other to account.

I’m having a bad week this week in terms of how much I’m eating and how little I’m exercising. This is largely work driven as I’ve been running around like a blue-arsed fly and dealing with some big, stressful, issues. My shoulder is also continuing to stop me doing any form of weights, or rowing, but it has been confirmed as no break, no significant tear, and just a bit of fraying around the edges. Therefore, just physio and time required...

I suspect I’ll be lucky to stay flat in terms of weight loss. However, I’m determined to bounce back again next week, and am pleased that I haven’t given in and had any form of alcohol... it’s remarkable how normal that is starting to feel!

Keep up the good work everyone!

Newton, seriously good news. Well done! Jon, good news too that it's nowhere near as debilitating as it could have been. Here's hoping for a swift recovery.

It's this forum that's driving me to keep going. First time in 16 years I've managed to keep at it this long.

Well done Newton. Fantastic. Really good work. You only get out what you put in. You have out in some good time, care and attention and achieved a great start. Keep up the good work.

Like Jon I've had some ups and downs. Most of this is down to your daily well being I'm convinced. If you are fulfilled, balanced and happy in your work/life then all of this becomes much easier. I'm not quite there yet.

Luckily I don't have a bad starting position as could be much worse but could also be much better. We all know the longer we leave it or the older we get the harder it gets so time is of the essence. Health body healthy mind and healthy mind healthy body. They do seem to work in tandem.

Keep posting and supporting each other boys
