After being out of my GranTurismo for 3 years, I now feel the urge to get back into a GTS / GTS MC. In order to facilitate that, I decided to see if my M3 would gather any interest.
It’s been my DD since I bought it last August from Sytner BMW. The car has 46k miles on the clock - just serviced by BMW and also got new spark plugs.

Onboard computer shows that the breaks are good for another 20/30k Miles (front/rear), and I got all the convertible roof joints replaced under warranty as there was a tiny water ingress in the cabin (£4k bill picked up graciously by BMW :). The car is under warranty until end of August 2020 - so effectively needs nothing anytime soon.

I also got the 2.5 exhaust mod done by PCW exhaust (we’ll known exhaust specialist for BMW) and it sounds viscious and very pure.

Price wise, I am look for anything around £18k (hefty hit vs what I bought it for 12months ago).
Happy to PX for a GranTurismo S or S MC + cash.

Little update on the M3 - I put the car up for sale on an BMW forum yesterday and got a trade offer at £15.5k which I turned down, and a chap who sold his RS4 and made me an offer for £16.5k. This feels a little low given what I paid for the car 12months ago, even if the market for big thirsty cars has soften a lot.
Do you think I should take it?

I am seeing a 550 maranello today, if I end up putting a deposit on it, I might be tempted to clear some space at home.

I think its a buyers market at the moment and you could be cheeky on the 550.
Another week in politics like this one and it could be a buyers market.

If it’s any help. I’ve just sold my manual 2008 vert with 54k for £15500, that’s was the asking price and went to the first person who came to see it, I’d had it for sale for 3 weeks.

Well done!! We’re did you list for sale? Mine is just on M3Cutters.
Sounds like I will hang on to mine as it has less miles and comes w a fully comp BMW 12months warranty. Let’s see what happens.

I’d not got enough posts for Mcutters. So went with AutoTrader and Pistonheads. Nothing from PH but a fair bit from AT. Not sure if being a manual made a difference but I reckon an LCI car is £18k any day

Based on experience of selling my last 3 cars its better to go with lower offer thats on the table than wait for that "what you think its worth" offer which may not ever happen and cars lose value every month they remain unsold anyway... unless you dont really want/need to sell then keep it advertised at whichever price you want for it....

you will probably be able to negotiate more off the 550 in this market than you would gain from hanging onto the BMW. 16,500 vs 17,500 - is it really worth waiting and enduring a load of tyre kickers and people saying - oh winter is coming, the market is down etc.
Just get another couple of k off the 550 and sleep easy

cheeky in, cheeky out! If you got the M3 at a good price, relative to their cost then, you can go out a little low and feel fine about it. Same now when entering the 550: think about the out situation and build that in to your offer. Good luck! (that M3 would cost 25KGBP here :) looks lovely.

Made an offer on a 550 today. It’s a LHD, which is my preferred choice, in top mechanical check. The owner just sorted everything on it (new brakes, clutch, tyres, sticky button, ball joints, etc...) for a total of £9k. The color combination is perfect to me (same as the movie bad boy).
Let’s see what happens - I am sure that car has a bit of down side over the next couple of years, but LHD in those specs and condition don’t come around everyday. So I am probably not getting the best deal ever - hence the relative negotiation margin between the M3 and the 550 might not be in my favour.

I now need to break the news to the wife that I might be the owner of a 550 on Monday ://

550. Awesome!!! Glad you went for it!

I have sold the Stradale, Evora, Elan and Clio Trophy in the last 10 months and got exactly what I put them up for.

I was realistic as the time/value of money is important...

Everyone seems to think they want a deal so you either price that in or set a fair level and tell them “no negotiation”...

I have found that if you have a solid and desirable asset that is within the price median, then “true” buyers will pay what you are asking for.

Just my personal experience.

I think even in the UK a LHD car is a very smart move for an asset that will surely increase in value, as you open up your get out point to a larger world market. Good luck with the offer!

I think anywhere between £17-18k is a great point as pointed out by Oneball who sold his ‘08 M3.
Looking at BMW pre-owned website the closest thing to mine - with the same 12months warranty to mine - is £22k asking. So probably £20k negotiated.
Let’s see what happens. I might be willing to drop the price a little bit below £18k to clear the garage space if the offer on the 550 gets accepted
